1950 Alan C. “Dinty” Moore and his late wife, Elizabeth, were honored by the University of Florida when a room there was dedicated in their name. The Professor Emeritus Alan C. Moore & Elizabeth Moore, RN Conference Room was dedicated by Dean Steve Dorman on Dec. 7, 2012. Alan was a faculty member at the university from 1953 to 1990, and was honored as a “Distinguished Retiring Professor” at the institu- tion’s commencement in 1990. Elizabeth spent 44 years as a nurse, retiring from the veterans’ hospital in Gainesville in 1986. She passed away in April 2007.


1952 Charles M. Tipton received the Clark W. Hetherington Award from the American Academy of Kinesiology. Tipton also attended his 60th reunion in June 2012.


1953 Gaetano Amato is in his 16th year working in the teacher prepara- tion program at Springfield College. He also has recently published several children’s books which can be found at getkidsmovingnow.com.


Michael Fiorillo competes annu- ally in the regional and state of Michigan Senior Olympics. Fiorillo qualifies each year for the National Senior Olympics in the 80-84 age bracket. His accom- plishments in the 2011 Michigan Senior Olympics include gold and state record in the triple jump; gold in shot put and long jump; silver in javelin and high jump; and bronze in discus. In 2012, he participated in four events, winning one gold, two silvers, and one bronze.


Howard Vandersea, former Springfield College football coach, was honored by past Springfield College and Bowdoin College football players at a dinner and roast in Boston in May 2012. Vandersea served as head football coach at Springfield College from 1976 to 1983. He had a record of 42 wins, 35 losses, and zero ties.


1954 Frank Leary and wife Kay cele- brated their 56th wedding anniversary at the Portland Symphony Magic of Christmas event in Maine on Dec. 15, 2012.
