“Dr. Flynn is genuinely student- oriented and unambiguously has a great love for the College. He has worked tirelessly throughout his tenure, with a resolute leadership that will benefit generations of students to come.”

heard him explain that facilities are designed to facilitate programs. “Facilities go far beyond bricks and mortar. They have a profound influence on academic program enhancement. They enable us to provide superior educational and experiential learning for our students. And they create a rich campus life and make our campus attrac- tive to prospective students.” Among the more spectacular improve-

ments to campus are the richard B. Flynn Campus union; Schoo-Bemis Science Center; Judd Gymnasia; and the Wellness & recreation Complex—comprised of the Field House, Wellness Center, and Athletic Training/exercise Science (AT/eS) facility. In fact, Springfield College was awarded numerous outstanding facilities awards. Says exercise Science and Sport Studies

Associate Professor and Department Chair Tracey Dexter Matthews, G’95, D.P.e.’97, “President Flynn's vision, leadership, and focus on transforming the facilities is evident every day as we walk through the campus. “The Wellness Center, Field House, and

It is atypical for a campus building to be named for a sitting president, but the College Trustees felt so strongly

about President Flynn’s commit- ment to the students that—in 2010—they named the new building in his honor. Prospective students on campus

tours see facilities and programs that produce highly sought gradu- ates and students who take seriously their commitment to the College mission. In fact, more than three quarters of the College’s first- year students claim Springfield College as their first-choice—a figure well above the national average for peer institutions. And,

Springfield College has above-national- average figures in student retention (85 percent of all first-year students on the main campus return) and degree completion (about two-thirds of all first-year students complete their degree requirements within five years).
