Many of these routes are supported by Sustrans who were delighted to be a charity partner of the event. In return, Bike Bath donated £1 for every registered rider towards Sustrans’ good work developing new stretches of the National Cycle Network. A section of this network was showcased on Saturday, when all of the riders followed a route through the iconic Two Tunnels, experiencing the unique sound and lighting installation in the Combe Down Tunnel as they returned to Bath.
By Saturday lunchtime, the rain abated and dappled sunlight became the order of the day which boded well weather-wise for the Sunday rides. Another good turn-out in the morning saw 60 and 100 mile riders head back out into the Cotswolds, where popular food stops included The Ormond in Tetbury, where host Iain Bailey is highly regarded for organising a cool range of Cotswold cycling breaks whilst serving good food, and a fine pint!
The idea for Bike Bath was born in a coffee shop in 2011 and continues to develop. It was pleasing to hear that Bike Bath 2013 is British Cycling’s biggest source of membership in their South region which goes to show what a collaboration of businesses, bike retailers and local food suppliers all working together can achieve.

This year, Legionnaire awards for the largest rider teams were made to the Meningitis Trust, (largest charity team) Mogers Solicitors, Bath (largest business team) and VC Walcot of Bath (largest cycling club).
A big thank you goes to the team at Cyclescheme who have hosted the Bike Bath team throughout the planning period and the Yorkshire Regiment who completed both of the 100 mile sportives on locally crafted Moulton bicycles, and added flare, colour and military panache to the event!
