BRADFORD TO BATH
Bradford to Bath connection
Sydney and Melbourne, New York and Los Angeles, and Bath and Bradford on Avon! All great pairings of fantastic towns and cities, and all well worth extended and repeated visits. Here in the south- west, we are fortunate to have both within easy reach, separated by just a few glorious miles of the winding River Avon, bordered by rolling Cotswolds hills and woods.
Leave the car behind for the day, and take the train up the line. It’s a ten minute picturesque run, with regular trains going in both directions. Grab a train timetable, and your camera, and you could even include a pub stop and aqueduct visits along the way! For those feeling fit and healthy, or those aspiring to, jump on your bicycle for a beautiful one hour ride, along the flat and pretty Kennet and Avon tow path that hugs the canalside the whole way, and takes you right to the heart of both town centres.
Between the two destinations, you will find everything you are looking for. A charming new restaurant perhaps, away from the usual tourist hustle and bustle? Or for a change, the cinema or theatre, or perhaps weaver’s cottages with real local shops. A Tithe barn, with riverside open park space, and canalside pubs, or historic terraced crescents, and designer shops and mouth-watering food emporiums.
We’re all so much better off for having the choice, and having all of these things to hand. If you don’t have a bicycle, you can rent one. If you’ve not been visiting our Georgian neighbours for awhile, both Bath and Bradford have excellent Tourist information facilities to help you with maps, suggestions and local knowledge to make the most of your day. Or as they might have said in times gone by whilst enjoying the spa water, “Carpe Diem!”
