AND IT’S GOODBYE FROM HIM…

Ahead of his retirement next month, we asked current members of the AGR Board of Directors to share their favourite memories of AGR Chief Executive, Carl Gilleard…

“Carl has the ability to ‘reach’ people whatever their background and has used this skill along with his passion and enthusiasm for the sector to build AGR in to the highly respected

organisation it is today. Carl’s legacy is that even in these difficult times AGR is still thriving, still supporting the sector and has a voice that is heard by many across the UK and beyond.”

“I first met Carl early in my career when he was running METRA. I remember being motivated by his passion for graduate and school recruitment and his conviction that it was such an important

topic for all employers. He was determined that the public sector shouldn’t be left behind and instead it should embrace this market.

“At the same time I was impressed by his steely determination to make an unattractive proposition like local government a career destination of choice for bright forward-thinking students.

“It had a tremendous impact on me at such a formative stage in my career and certainly inspired me to develop into the field of graduate and school recruitment. It has been a pleasure knowing and working with you Carl – best wishes for the future.”

Rob Farace, National Resourcing Manager at the NHS Leadership Academy

“One repeated memory I have of Carl is his ability to ‘hold court’ with so many graduate recruiters, developers, university colleagues and suppliers crowding around to listen as he shares

his pearls of wisdom at events, conferences and awards dinners etc.

8 GRADUATE RECRUITER

“Carl has the ability to ‘reach’ people whatever their background and has used this skill along with his passion and enthusiasm for the sector to build AGR in to the highly respected organisation it is today. Carl’s legacy is that even in these difficult times AGR is still thriving, still supporting the sector and has a voice that is heard by many across the UK and beyond.”

Karen Martin, Executive Assistant, Group Talent, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group

“For the years I’ve worked in recruitment, Carl has always been a presence and someone to represent us all professionally.

“He has been a great figurehead,

ambassador and a trusted advisor and friend – and we’ll all miss having him around.

“The AGR has developed so much under his leadership and many will benefit from his legacy.

“A true northern gent with a great sense of humour and a never-ending passion and commitment to our industry – look back and be very proud of all you have achieved Carl. Wishing you well for everything the future holds. Lots of warm wishes, Nicky”

Nicky Ivory-Chapman, Reputation and Resourcing Manager, McDonald’s UK
