CONFERENCE… COUNTDOWN TO A

s you hopefully will have noticed by now, the AGR Annual Conference will be taking place next month at the beginning of July (7th - 9th) 2013. This year, for the first time, we are offering delegates a choice of subjects and learning styles.

Each session, will be on one of the following three topics: • Changes in education and early careers • Talent attraction • Talent selection

In addition to subject choice, we are also giving delegates greater freedom to choose an appropriate learning style to suit them. Therefore each session will be conducted in one of the following three styles: • Thought leadership • Skills development • Practical takeaways

This year we will be running a whopping 25 sessions across the Monday and Tuesday. While we unfortunately don’t have room to list them all here, we’ve given you our pick of six sessions which we are looking forward to*:

Tackling the task of early careers engagement has required the birth of many tools and best practice within Siemens. From schools to universities there is no rock left unturned. At a time when the future of our business lies in the hands of those currently studying we want to inspire and educate a generation that our industries need more than just engineers. As part of our session a combination of interactive learning and insightful case studies of our 3 key areas of engagement will provide participants with the best practice tips that provides Siemens with the drive and motivation to do more for generation Y.

Skills shortages and demographic shifts: Building a resilient talent pipeline

Subject: Changes in Education and Early Careers Learning Style: Practical Takeaways Speakers: Mike Fetters, Graduate Director, totaljobs.com

Latest research from totaljobs.com reveals that entry level talent recruitment will face additional pressures by 2017, with demographic changes meaning fewer school and university leavers. How can you ensure your organisation is prepared for these changes and the knock on effect on skills shortages? Following on from the recent Graduate AnswerTime event, this practical session will be led by an introduction from totaljobs’ Graduate Director Mike Fetters, who will frame the future outlook. An employer will then demonstrate how they’re addressing this changing need: the attraction campaigns they use to ensure their entry level talent keeps them ahead of the game; and how they’re onboarding their graduates to be better equipped for the world of work. We’ll then take a step back and facilitate small, practical, peer

group discussions to consider ideas and best practice to prepare for the future. You should leave the room with real-world examples of what your company can do to minimise the effect of a changing entry level workforce.
