me and my motor
me and my motorbike Scott Pearson, Managing Director of Newport Transport Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Scott Pearson and I am the managing director of the bus operator Newport Transport.
What was your first car/bike and what did you think of it?
The first motorbike I had was a Honda CBR250N Superdream. It got me through my test many years ago and was a good bike but after I passed I quickly moved on to bigger models.
What do you drive now and why?
I’m actually in-between bikes as the moment as I’m looking at getting a new one for the spring- summer, which is a great time to ride. I previously had a Kawasaki Ninja ZX9R, which was a great bike. I’m probably going to go for a Suzuki GSX1400 this time around.
What is your dream motorbike?
The Ninja ZX9R was definitely up there. It’s a fantastic model with a top speed of nearly 175mph. To be honest though I’m a big fan of all superbikes – they’re great examples of engineering and riding one is a special experience.
Would you ever go electric? Why?
I’d certainly give it a try. It is important that we do what we can to improve the environment for our kids and grandkids. I’m very much a believer that
we shouldn’t leave them with a mess to tidy up. What does a car/bike say about its owner?
I think you can tell more about how the person drives a vehicle – bikes in-particular. There are quite a few people out there who don’t respect the roads on a bike, which is a dangerous game to play. They’re powerful machines and it’s all about treating them with respect and the roads that other people travel on too.
How important is it for you in your line of business to have the car/bike that you do?
The motorbike and business life never cross! The bike is definitely for weekend fun.
What other cars/bikes have you owned?
I’ve had too many to list! Some of my favourites though include a Suzuki 500 Gamma, a Honda CBR1000 and a Kawasaki ZXR750.
What’s your next car/bike? Probably a Suzuki GSX1400. Favourite road to drive on and why?
There are some great roads in South and Mid Wales, which I love exploring, but my favourite is back in my homeland – Inverness to Ullapool on the A835. It has excellent road conditions and amazing countryside.
THEbusiness QUARTER 49
It’s 2013 and the next number plate will be a 13 – would that put you off buying a new car?
I’m not superstitious so not at all. In fact at Newport Transport we’re planning on investing in more new buses so you’ll probably see some 13 plates on the city streets in the near future.
