CREATING SPACE

Vince Taylor, Director of Kinetic Workplace Design provides his

thoughts on what kinds of features can you add to make your place fit for purpose...

Office Partitioning: This offers the perfect solution for the division of space and the creation of privacy within an open plan office situation. The partitioning can extend upwards from half, to full room height with full height partitioning, effectively creating a separated room within the open plan environment. This is particularly useful if the segregation

of an entire department is called for. In many such cases, glazed partitioning is useful since this effectively separates the department, without leaving the employees feeling isolated. To enhance privacy, window blinds can be fitted or manifestation can be applied. Glass partitioning can be supplied in both

clear and frosted glass options and can be double glazed for added soundproofing. Alternative materials

such as Muraspec Lumicor resin panels

impregnated with fibres to simulate grasses and crystals can add effect and interest to office divisions.

Space Planning: With detailed space planning which takes into account the specific roles, functions, movements and any co-dependence of each department, a plan can be drawn up which will utilise the available space properly. This will ensure your partitioned office space works as efficiently as possible, making full use of the available accommodation, in the most cost effective and productive way.

Lighting: The availability of natural light is an important consideration in any environment and the office is no exception. Studies and surveys have shown that the effects of natural light on staff morale and productivity are extremely beneficial. Where this isn’t possible, modern LED lighting can create moods for any situation within the office, dimmer controlled for presentations and breakout areas, with high levels of light for a reception/working area.

Colour: The effectiveness of colour should never be

underestimated. It is proven that a bright and colourful, stimulating working environment leads to greater staff morale and performance. This is particularly true in the creative and sales arenas where the use of vivid design and primary colours is not uncommon. Use of large scale wall branding with images of anything you wish can be added to add interest and mood to breakout areas and more corporate schemes for receptions

Office furniture: The use of stylish and comfortable office furniture will go a long way to enhancing those all important first impressions, gleaned by your prospective clients. It will also improve and increase the productivity and performance of your workforce. It’s important that the furniture correctly enhances IT technology on offer in today’s workplace, USB charging points is a nice feature. The ability to contain power and data cabling effectively is essential to any furniture system on the market today.

How do you upgrade with out disruption? We are often asked to undertaken our work at night or over the weekend. This enables us to work without disruption ourselves using power tools and other noisy equipment without having to be mindful of the client’s personnel. It is also very beneficial to work this way from a Health & Safety perspective.
