offi ce ‘must haves’ 1. Space for collaboration

It’s widely acknowledged that collaboration fuels innovation. That’s why providing areas which encourage employees to share ideas and be creative together is really important. As well as helping to develop new ideas it can also improve morale and relationships between departments. At Paramount we have a room we use for informal meetings or brainstorming sessions, which includes a write-on wall and Kinnarps Omni Red Dot revolving chairs, the same as those featured in the sci-fi film, Prometheus.

2. Ergonomic Task seating

Health and wellbeing is now acknowledged as an important workplace issue. Well-motivated and healthy employees can have an equally positive impact on the productivity and effectiveness of a business. That is why it is vital that companies provide their employees, in particular those in sedentary roles, with good quality ergonomically designed Task seating like this Think Chair by Steelcase. Not only does it look great, it is designed to track the individual movement of your spine and pelvis and so helps improve posture and prevent back problems, which is one of the major causes of employee absenteeism in the UK.

3. Video conferencing

Every good business is constantly looking at ways in which it can become more efficient, reduce costs and also reduce the impact that it has on the environment. One of the ways to do this is through the use of video conferencing facilities, which cuts down the amount of time spent by employees travelling to and from meetings and as a consequence helps to reduce a company’s carbon footprint. We use the Steelcase media:scape suite with a Polycom video conferencing system to communicate with our clients and suppliers across the UK and Europe.

4. Hot desks

Advancements in technology mean that people can now work from anywhere and at anytime. With more and more companies allowing and actively encouraging remote working, it means that many office desks are underutilised much of the time. Therefore, having flexible desk space with access to Wi-Fi which visitors and employees can use when they are in the office is crucial for the most efficient use of office space. As well as the benefits to employees, remote working can also help companies to cut their property or rental costs as they do not require such a large amount of office space.

5. Staff ‘breakout’ areas

Providing facilities which help to attract and retain staff by motivating them and making them want to work in a particular office is key. This means offering space for them to break away from their work and to re-charge their batteries during the day. This could include a company gym or a comfortable communal area for people to relax, socialise and enjoy their lunch.
