The Trust, which is celebrating its 50th
anniversary, is to give businesses which sign up to its Corporate Challenge, £50 seed funding. The challenge to those wanting to take part is
to turn that seed money into as much money as possible for the trust in the space of four months. All the trust asks is that organisations raise as
much money as possible, however they want. GWT fundraising officer Liesel Townley said:
“Employees can organise a cake sale, take part in a sponsored event or hold a quiz evening, invest it in the stock market or organise social activities. “The list is endless and as long as it is legal and
ethical, it is fine. “This is a great way for individuals to learn a
new skill and for organisations to engage, motivate and inspire employees. “It is also an excellent marketing tool as all
participants will be featured on the GWT website, together with coverage on Facebook, Twitter and in the South Wales Argus, Free Press, Business Quarter, and Monmouthshire County Life, our media partners throughout the whole of 2013.” The challenge is being sponsored by Ancre Hill
Vineyard and will be officially launched on June 13 at the Monmouth Vineyard at 3pm. At the event signed up teams will be given their fundraising packs and a crisp £50 note.

Keeping your staff fit
By Jon Williams, director of Pro Athlete Supplementation Ltd
Why should a business encourage its staff to keep as fit and healthy as possible? For our staff this is easy as we are dealing with professional sports people and we all have a background in sport so we have some pride to keep up. From a general perspective then healthy,
fit empolyees are more productive, get sick far less and are much more positive.
Gwent Wildlife Trust manages land, influences decision making and champions the natural environment locally. It was formed in 1963 and is spending this 50th anniversary year working to raise its profile and much needed funds.
Why do you think more and more people are becoming obese? It’s simple – no exercise, lack of physical activity in work and then eating far too much and drinking too much alcohol. It can be broken down further in terms of eating too much processed foods etc, but this is the reality.
How important is it for people who sit at desks all day long to keep fit? Human beings are not made to just sit all day. The body will soon break down if we don’t give it a reason to stay strong. We
must find ways to make time for it – a 20 minute high intensity session can be enough to make a huge difference.
What easy ways for the lazy people among us are there for keeping fit? None. We need to stop trying to find an easy option, new machines, fad diets etc and accept the truth. Either that or eat, drink and be happy, but you won’t be in shape and healthy.
And what about if people want to be a bit more adventurous? Find exercise you enjoy – five-a-side, mountain biking, etc – there’s lots of options out there.
If you had a magic wand, what would you do to make the nation fitter? Daily exercise at school. We need to start from the right age and also educate better on nutrition. Have exercise classes which all schoolchildren can enjoy, then they get in the habit of regular exercise.
