The Changing Game T
he University of Wales, Newport will welcome rugby professionals and sporting experts to its prestigious two- day conference in May, focusing on the
changing nature of the game. Hosted by Sean Holley, BBC Wales Scrum
V analyst and leading consultant coach, as well as Wales International rugby star Shane Williams MBE, the conference will take place on May 3 and 4 at the University’s Caerleon Campus. The Changing Game conference is designed
to give people from all rugby backgrounds and levels of involvement, access to current practitioners from the top end of the game and provide a framework for discussion. Current rugby professionals from
International Rugby, Aviva Premiership, Heneiken Cup and the Super Rugby will deliver and lead thought provoking presentations and expert recognised facilitators will assist in ‘Break Out’ Seminar sessions. Other high-profi le contributors to the
conference include Non Evans, Welsh Women’s rugby player, Olympian, Commonwealth athlete and TV presenter; Scott Johnson, Scotland Head Coach; Kevin Bowring (RFU Head of Elite Coach Development); Gary Gold (Bath Rugby Head Coach) and Donal Courtney, European Rugby Match Offi cials Performance Manager.
Attendees and speakers will discuss issues
such as the effects of injuries on the Professional Squad, the importance of the Head Coach, Head Conditioner and the Head Physio relationship with teams, the anatomy of a modern professional rugby player, and how we can help community clubs survive, among many others. The conference will start at 11am on May
3, and the presentations will be followed by a dinner at the Celtic Manor Resort in the evening. A rugby forum will form part of the dinner in addition to a Q&A session, guest speaker and an auction of memorabilia. The University of Wales, Newport is also
thrilled to launch the Shane Williams and Ryan Jones Sports Scholarship as part of this prestigious dinner. Further presentations will continue the following day and the conference will fi nish at 1pm. The conference costs £170; dinner is £70
