in investing in a burgeoning global business that is bound to have a positive impact on their community financially and socially.

Looking across Africa the most successful sports academies are ran by foreigners, and not that there is anything wrong with that but Africans need to wake up and see these opportunities as well as the fact that being involved in developing young talents will not only help to empower them the investors but give them a sense of purpose and pride in making a positive contributions to their societies.

Messi ! … at the very mention of that name, what comes to mind for most sports lov- ers is the mind boggling talent of the player and also his prolific scoring ability but let’s look at the inside story of who Messi truly is and how he got to become what he is to- day and you will find the journey of a young boy who was committed to a power house Soccer Academy at an early age by his parents in what is now one of the most power- ful and richest sports organization in the world; FC Barcelona. Groomed and devel- oped from his youth, Messi is the best player that plays the game of football today and arguably the best to have ever played it.

Well Messi is just an example of a single talent but take into account a collection of talents and you will find the entire Spanish Team which has dominated global football in the last decade and we can also say that about the Elephants of the Ivory Coast who fell short in winning the 29th edition of the African Cup of Nations a tournament they where touted to win, but what's common here is the talent level in these teams, and the fact that most members of these team were groomed in football academies.

So it goes without saying that the grassroots devel- opment of sports and an invest- ment in a national sports academy should be a prior- ity of most African nations if they intend to em- power their youths and give their countries a bright future.
