BoardConnect continues to impress

IFE solutions can be complex and hard-wired, expensive and inflexible. In contrast, BoardConnect, the award-winning wireless in- flight entertainment solution form Lufthansa Systems, replaces wired solutions with a wireless network based on established standards. Instead of connecting every single seat to the on-board content server through kilometres of cables, BoardConnect has just a few WiFi access points. Passengers log on to this network with their own laptops, smartphones or tablet PCs to access the content on the server.

Since no wiring is necessary to transmit data,

BoardConnect can be installed during routine maintenance work. This reduces installation and operations costs. The elimination of in-seat screens, wiring and hardware for data distribution makes the solution lighter and more fuel-efficient: A Boeing 737-800 with 170 seats, for instance, can save around 45 tons of fuel annually. BoardConnect earned two leading industry awards in 2012, including the Aircraft Interiors Expo Crystal Cabin Award.

Versatility for airlines and maximum reliability for passengers

Versatility is the name of the game with Rockwell Collins at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2013. The company will be showcasing its PAVES™

family of cabin systems for air transport and to them, it is not all about the hardware; it is about the solution. The IFE-maker understands the various needs of airlines and claims to have the right solution to meet any mission, whether it is in-seat video that operates independently of the main server, or enabling Web- based applications for personal devices.

The latest from Scott Group Custom Carpets

Scott Group Custom Carpets will present its latest Aviation carpet collection at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2013. Inspired by colour trends and

textures from fashion runways, this collection features both handmade and machine made with hand-over tufting or “Hybrid” patterns. Handmade patterns include 12 new patterns that range from classic textures, stripes and checks inspired by men’s suiting, to decorative designs inspired from architectural detailing. The Hybrid collection of 12 new patterns complements the handmade collection and is available in a Quick Ship lead-time for projects that require a fast turn-around. “We recognise the need for both functionality and luxury in the business Jet industry” said Jennifer Kirchgessner, Scott Group’s Director of Marketing. “We have complete control over every aspect of quality, with design and production under one roof in our Grand Rapids facility. All orders are produced with artisans working in conjunction with teams of designers, assuring that every aspect of the carpet receives close and personal attention. The design and marketing team researches trends in fashion, residential and consumer markets to ensure that new products brought to market are both aesthetically pleasing and uniquely constructed to meet the needs of today’s business jet owner”. Aircraft designers have more options when selecting carpet for the aircraft. Handmade carpet allows total customisation of a luxury carpet in wool, silk or wool cashmere. And for the project that requires a shorter lead-time for completion, custom Hybrid will ship anywhere from 3-5 weeks, depending on the pattern. All of the patterns can be customised to suit the aircraft interior.

Even more from WASP

Wessex Advanced Switching Products (WASP) has increased its stand size by 50 percent for 2013 in order to accommodate its growing range of seat and suite controls and lighting systems. Last year, the company was granted AS9100 RevC qualification and is keen to demonstrate the many capabilities which helped achieve this significant recognition. In addition to the standard range of mood lights, wash lights, puddle lights, snake lights and Seat/Suite Information Panels (SIPS) - along with the new reading lights, up and downlighters, feature and shelf lights which were launched in Hamburg last year - WASP will present its new lights and accessory controls.

Part of the stand will be dedicated to showing a mock seating area where the company will also be demonstrating its stowage lighting, which is activated by the use of a Hall Effect sensor. Such lighting for small spaces is achieved through the use of a miniature PCB based LED light module. The seating control app, designed for use with mobile devices and shown for the first time last year, has undergone further development and will be demonstrated on the stand.
