The Backcountry News Unit & Local News
It is really nice once in a while to hear an atta boy for all the work our outstanding volunteers do. See the email below that I received today about the efforts on the Pacific Crest Trail. Please send out to our folks. I’ll send him a thank you note. October 2012
Michael K. McGlenn Chairman BCHA
Mike: I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail this past summer and I wanted to e-mail to give a big thank you to all the backcountry horsemen who donate their time to maintaining the trail. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the crew near Chester and they were kind enough to provide me with some water. One of the crew had hiked the PCT in the early 1990s and Ralph, I believe his name was, rode the PCT in the early 1970s. Horse manure on the trail was one of the signs I used to confirm that I was on the PCT in some remote spots.

I think this message from "Donald" the PCT thru hiker, was directed to all BCH members who work on the PCT, however if he encountered "Ralph" near Chester, that could very well be Ralph Looney from the BCHC Sutter Buttes Unit. Ralph has been with the Sutter Buttes Unit from the beginning
