Round Three - ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’
Rules: Each sound system must play music from another genre. Major Lazer introduced old school Reggae artist Johnny Osbourne into the clash, he performed ‘Ice Cream Sound’ an absolute clash classic. The BBK collective hit back at Major Lazer, revealing their secret, that Usher would be their closing performance. However round three went to Annie Mac with outstanding performances from Maverick Sabre and Miss Dynamite sealing it for them.
The opening round was all about the sounds winning over the packed out arena and getting the crowd on side early. The atmosphere was a cross between a concert and the Notting Hill Carnival – the crowd going crazy, screaming and shouting.
Round Four - ‘The Decider’ So it came down to the final and most memorable round of the night. Channel One introduced Reggae superstar Luciano but the crowd in attendance may have been a little to young to appreciate the Roots Reggae singer. Annie Mac filled the stage with as many artists as she could Ms Dynamite, Katy B, Example and Rudimental amongst others. BBK left the best until last, without a doubt their strongest
round yet…calling on the big guns Chipmunk, Lethal Bizzle and even Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong. Yet Major Lazer stole the show once again with live performances from Rita Ora and the biggest RnB star in the world Usher Raymond.
I myself was convinced that Major Lazer had won especially after watching the audience’ reaction but Tim Westwood announced
BBK as the Culture Clash champions - possibly the home advantage prevailed.
All in all an unforgettable musical tournament that brought world music together in one arena.
