Southbank Winter Festival Southbank Centre will be transformed into a festive landscape with a twist for Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival. Visitors can explore a number of art installations across the site, a festive take on a giant African baobab tree and a seasonally dressed bandstand on Southbank Centre Square. There will be shows for all ages, from Imagine Toi featuring a beat-boxing clown and darkly comic cabaret Meow Meow, to candlelit classical concerts and baby opera Karoll Karol. These will run alongside a programme of free events, including choirs singing by the river and gigs in the Royal Festival Hall foyer. Visitors can also shop at one of the many bustling Christmas markets like The Chocolate Festival, Designers/Makers Market and Real Food Christmas Market. William Klein + Daido Moriyama William Klein + Daido Moriyama is the first exhibition to examine the relationship between the work of William Klein (b.1928), one of twentieth century’s most important photographers and film-makers, and that of Daido Moriyama (b.1938), the most celebrated photographer to emerge from the Japanese Provoke movement. Taking as its central theme the cities of New York and Tokyo, William Klein + Daido Moriyama explores both artists’ celebrated depictions of modern urban life. The exhibition is formed of two retrospectives side by side, bringing together over 300 works, including vintage prints, contact sheets, film stills, photographic installations and archival material. Ballgowns: British Glamour
Since 1950 Your last chance to see a spectacular exhibition of more than 60 ballgowns from 1950 to the present day are on display at the V&A. Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 features beautiful ballgowns, red carpet evening gowns and catwalk showstoppers. Tour de force eveningwear from the V&A’s vast collection by designers such as Norman Hartnell, Victor Stiebel, Zandra Rhodes, Catherine Walker, Jonathan Saunders and Hussein Chalayan are on show, as well as dresses fresh from the catwalk shows of Alexander McQueen, Giles, Erdem, Roksanda Illincic, Mark Fast and Jenny Packham. A selection of royal ballgowns will be displayed as well as dresses worn by actresses and celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Daphne Guinness, Elizabeth Hurley and Bianca Jagger.
