04 EVENT REVIEW What you missed!
Battersea’s Big Freeze
The beacons of the South London Skyline, Battersea Power Station’s iconic chimneys were eclipsed for one weekend by what from afar looked like a huge scalextric but was infact a mammoth Ski ramp. As we walked up to the site of London Freeze festival that Saturday afternoon the sight of ramp imprinted against sky was captivating!
I’ll be honest I don’t know the first thing about snowsports so don’t expect in depth snowsports speak. Looking at the crowd, I wasn’t the only one, yes there were the extreme sporters, and young enthusiasts dragging mum and Dad along but there were a multitude of revellers out for some daytime fun and frolicking. The ratio of which got decidedly larger as day turned to night.
Ok so the sport, there were three main events; the Whitelines Battle of Britain Snowboard Competition, Freeze Ski Style Competition and the big’un the International Freeze Snowboarding Big Air Competition. Continuing our glorious London 2012 roll it was Brit Billy Morgan who outscored the likes of Sweden’s Tors T Lundstrom and France’s Victor De Le Rue to be crowned champion- the first Brit ever to do so! Done with
skill and finesse Billy landed some breathtaking stunts in the three judging categories ‘Style’, ‘Technical Ability’ and ‘Rider’s Choice’. Winners of the Whitelines Battle of Britain Snowboard Competition and Freeze
