WORKING IN LAW 2013

– whether through the GDL, LPC or BVC, solicitors’ training contract or barristers’ pupillage.

Author Charlie-Phillips had the following to say about her latest book:

Without connections in a profession like the law, getting a head start to secure a job today can be incredibly difficult. Working in Law 2013 provides insider knowledge of today’s legal profession, helping you to understand the options, and make the right choices. Some of the essentials covered are:

• How to secure a training contract or pupillage.

• Making extra-curricular opportunities count, and how they can lead to a job.

• What you can do with a legal qualification.

• What working in law is really like.

• How to approach potential employers.

This is the definitive, practical guide to qualification and beyond

“Pursuing a career in law requires huge personal commitment, and the options available can be bewildering. Despite the stereotypical view that law is a stuffy, old-fashioned profession, it is in fact an extremely dynamic environment. When I was deciding whether to train and qualify as a solicitor, there was no single, authoritative guide, written by someone who had trained, qualified and successfully forged a career in today’s legal world. I found the education and training process hugely rewarding, but there were a

few things I wish I’d known – from an insider’s perspective – before I’d started. Working In Law 2013 provides that insight for anyone serious about a career in law.”

Charlie Phillip qualified as a Solicitor in 2009 after several years working in music and broadcasting after graduating from Oxford University. He trained at City law firm Lewis Silkin LLP, working across a range of employment, commercial and other legal areas. He is now Head of Legal and Commercial Affairs at the Association of Independent Music, where he specialises in international rights and licensing.
