ENTRY INFORMATION Eligibility


The competition is open to anyone with a keen interest in gaming and product design. Entrants must have the vision and necessary skills to design and create a prototype product.


How to Enter


• The competition entry form will launch on 26th October 2012.


• Entrants must apply online at www.gioteck.com/designchallenge by 31st December completing the online application form provided.


• All Stage 1 design concepts must be submitted to: Norton & Co, 1 Cotswold Link, London Road, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56 0JU and received by 15th March for judging and selection into Stage 2.


• Stage 1 finalists will be selected and notified by 8th April


• All Stage 2 finalists must present and pitch their concept to the judging panel at The Apprentices Den in the Boardroom at Future Publishing Headquarters in London on 14th June where they will be judged and a winner selected.


THE JUDGING PROCESS – The Apprentices Den


The whole process is being filmed to create a mini-series for use on the internet and is currently code named ‘The Apprentices Den’


Our media partner Future TV will film each stage of the process and interview some of the entrants as they develop their design submissions. As the process evolves there will be emotional moments and moments of absolute joy but all the way through there will be tension and pressure to find the next generation of gaming peripheral. Are you good enough for the Apprentices Den?


Judging


There will be two stages of judging. • Initial 2D design and written concepts must be submitted for Stage 1 judging by 15th March.


• A short list of 12 designs will go forward onto Stage 2 for further development of concept into a model/prototype for mass production.


• Stage 2 requires the 12 shortlisted entrants to present their concepts to the judging panel in a pitch scenario in The Apprentices Den in the Boardroom at Future Publishing Headquarters in London on 31st May where they will be assessed on set criteria to select a winner and two runners up.


Judging Criteria


Each of the following criteria will be marked out of ten, giving a possible top score of 40 points per entry: • Visual appeal & ergonomics • USPs


The Judging Panel


The judging panel will be made up of leading figures from the design, commerce, computer gaming industry and newspaper media.


The panel will be announced later in the year.


• Product marketability • Personality and presentation


COMPETITION PRIZE


There will be one competition winner; two runners up will also be rewarded


1st prize


• A 12 month paid apprenticeship at Gioteck, working with the team on developing the future of gaming and leisure accessories.


• A trip to China to see products made in major electronics factories,


• If the winning product is commercially viable it will be put into production and the winner will receive a Royalty scheme for product for 12 months.


• CAD software and a MacBook Pro to run it through


• Award trophy and certificate
