The first time we converged on Daddy Joes, we were actually coming out for the live music. We had gotten the memo that The New Legacy Duo, Freddie
Vanderford and Brandon Turner would be playing some Piedmont blues on the patio that night, so three of us drove over to Gaffney and dined in the restaurant prior to hitting the patio to hear some great music. Then this past weekend, several
of us returned to the scene of the dine to have lunch with visiting dignitary Billy Eli. Daddy Joe’s has some fine appetizers to begin your meal with, including tasty fried beer battered Monterey cheese sticks with home made honey mustard dipping sauce. ($5.95) Their fried zucchini is out of this world, served with ranch sauce for more dip- ping. ($5.95) One of the best appetizers is the rib sampler ($7.95). Daddy Joes has some tasty St. Louis style BBQ ribs for sure. There are quite a few entrees to choose from. On my first visit, I ordered one of their “beach plates,” the flounder. ($8.95) Breaded and deep fried, it was outstanding. Some of the best fried fish I have had in a while. It came with hush puppies and two sides. I had
cole slaw and fries.
On my second visit, I ordered one of their many combination plates, the chopped BBQ and Calabash chicken ($9.95). The BBQ was okay, but I left most of it. The chicken, how- ever, was very tasty. The fries were... fries, and the hush puppies were kind of disap- pointing. We were told by our waitress that they are home made, so I am not going to doubt her, but they looked and tasted like frozen grocery store pups.

One of the folks in our party enjoyed the chopped BBQ sandwich plate ($6.95). The chopped pork is smoked in their cooker every single night, and is topped with their Lexington style BBQ sauce. From all accounts, it is a
mighty tasty treat. Served with puppies and two side items.
There really aren’t too many negatives I can report about Daddy Joes, although one of the folks in our party ordered coffee and said that it tasted horrible, like it had been sitting in the kitchen for hours. Of course, our friend drank it anyway, so at least it wasn’t lethal. Overall, I have to recommend Daddy Joes. I love the decor, the old signage, the whole feel of a BBQ joint and bar just off of the pier at Anywhere Beach, USA. A great place for some beers, some BBQ and some good live music.
