was about that experience - it was amazing. We have it so great in America and so many blessings, and I know, speaking for myself, we gripe and moan and whine, and these people have absolutely nothing, and they feel so blessed - and that’s kinda what that song was about.
Well, I’ll tell ya I have played the album now several times. First of all, congratulations on putting out such a wonderful album. Thank you, thank you.
I know everybody is just gonna love it like I do. I wanted to ask you - one of my favorite songs on that album is “John Lennon.” How did you come up with that? What was the inspiration? Man, I was just thinking about the state of the music business, and what it’s become. You remember, you know, being an old school guy, the way we used to do records. We’d go spend a month in the studio and
we’d spend a week tracking, a week doing over dubs, and a week doing vocals, and a week mixing and then it was done. And now we’ll cut four sides and bring in 18 studio players and go back three months later and cut four more and spend $50,000 tuning vocals and stuff, and I was just sitting there thinking, you know - I wonder what John Lennon would think about the state of the music business. And that’s kind of where it came from. I was thinking that’s what it’s come to, you know? Now, everything is auto- tuned and vocals are made perfect and American Idol and all that - I don’t mean to put that down. There’s some very talented people on The Voice and those shows. But it’s not what it used to be. You remember how it used to be, like the way Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels, and the Allmans did. They worked their butts off and get a following and really work at it. And now, it’s just not like that anymore.
