two years since we lost our buddy.)

I would have loved to have seen that - was it The Outlaws and Charlie? Yeah, it was Outlaws, Charlie Daniels and 38 Special at the LA County Fair. It was a great show - we had a great time. It was great see- ing Charlie and, remember Freddy Edwards, one of Charlie's drummers....

Freddy’s been working out in Hollywood doing costumes for major motion pictures.

Yeah he showed up, and we just had a great time.

Oh, that’s awesome. I want to ask you a question Billy. I’m sure you’re aware of it, Given the whole internet thing - the fans think - some of them they need to voice their opinions - that’s not Lynyrd Skynrd anymore - blah, blah, blah - and some folks think it can’t be The Outlaws anymore without Hughie Thomasson, but argument to that is Hughie has gone on to be with the Lord so he can’t be the band. But what do you think about that - about “it can’t be The Outlaws?” To me it is and always will be.

Well, I got a lot of e-mails about that - and this goes for Lynyrd Skynrd and Marshall Tucker and The Allman Brothers Band and a lot of other bands. If you have a band out there with guys that are playing and still continuing to play that music and promote it and keep that name alive, that’s the best thing in the world. So you want to squelch it and put it away and the memory of that band fades away and your lose your fans. Your fan base grows old and eventually passes away, and the band goes away. It’s really a hard thing for me because people think we’re out there getting rich off of Hughie Thomasson.

I loved Hughie. He was a great, great person and a great guitar play and talent. All we’re doing it trying to do, in my heart, is to keep his songs alive and to keep his memory alive, and go out and carry on the music. I don’t know why this becomes so political to people. It baffles me. There are some people out there that get angry over it. Hughie wouldn’t want that. That’s not the kind of person he was - not the Hughie I knew. He was a great ambassador of Rock & Roll. We just want to keep the music alive. If we don’t, it’s going to eventually go away, you know?

Exactly. I know. I feel exactly the same way. So what’s next for Billy Crain?

Well, I’m already starting work on BC III. BC III will be the third record. I’ve got one song one finished for it and we‘re going to start writing pretty hard for that. And I’m getting ready to start rehearsals for the Creole Shoes tour and booking dates for that. We got something special in the works - going to try to do a live internet show, it’s almost like a Bible study that will be open to all friends and fans - we’ve got some really big, great names lined up for this.

Oh, boy.

Yeah, it’s going to be great, Michael. We’re going to try to get the word of God out there. I’m really concerned about the state of our nation and the disrespect that’s going on toward our Lord and savior. I want to try to get out there and we’re going to have this internet show where people can call in. We’ve got some really big stars that are plan- ning to be on this thing. Hopefully, we can make an announcement on that soon. •
