Making the right moves
MOVING house can be stressful - packing and transporting hundreds of objects - but moving day itself can be trouble- free if you choose the right company to take care of all your treasured possessions. The British Association of Removers can help you make the right choice as all BAR members operate to a strict code of practice that’s approved by the Office of Fair Trading. The code is designed to protect you, the customer, to make sure you get the kind of service you would expect from a professional organisation and requires all BAR members to be clear, open and honest in their dealings with customers. When you are about to entrust all your possessions to a
company you may not have used before, you can have the added reassurance that all BAR member companies must have established commercial premises and train their staff to do the job safely, professionally and use the correct materials. You’ll have the peace of mind that comes from using a firm
that really knows what it’s doing, and in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, you will have someone to turn to. To help you prepare and plan for a smooth and efficient
move to your new home the British Association of Removers has produced the list of Golden Rules: Always choose a BAR member. They have the experience, expertise and facilities to handle your move properly.
Plan your move well in advance. Contact your local moving company up to one month before you hope to move. They will tell you exactly what they offer and advise on the actions you need to think about.
Don't do the packing yourself. If you can afford to have it done professionally, do so. BAR companies use a range of appropriate packing materials and employ fully trained staff who will pack your things professionally and safely.
Insurance. No matter how much care is taken with packing and handling, accidents do sometimes happen. All member companies must have insurance which meets strict standards
Don't move on Friday. If you can, avoid Fridays as this day is always busy. Some moving companies may even offer a discount if you move in the middle of the week.
