One Thames Valley success story is undoubtedly the award-winning Ella’s Kitchen, the producer of premium organic food for babies and young children based near Henley.
Its financial director Catherine Empringham – also described as “head of makes sums work” – gave the audience an inspiring snapshot of the company’s success at home and abroad, and left everyone in no doubt about the company’s creativity, passion and tenacity to succeed.
Indeed, such has been its success, Empringham was later presented with an award for Fast Riser from Perry Burton, office managing partner at Grant Thornton, and said: “We’re delighted Ella’s Kitchen has received the Fast Riser Award. It is great for the team to be recognised for their hard work and to celebrate the success of Ella’s Kitchen.
“We believe in putting children at the heart of everything we do by providing handy and healthy organic products.”
The audience heard judges had been impressed by the company’s significant growth despite the recession and by its strong reputation for sustainable practice.
One of the most popular presentations was to Dr Rami Ranger, MBE, chairman of supermarket product distributor Sun Mark and Sea, Air & Land Forwarding, based in Greenford, whose joint turnover of more than £150 million makes them two of the UK’s fastest-growing companies.
Sun Mark already operates in over 100 overseas markets and is now expanding into the Far East and Ranger (pictured centre) was delighted to collect the award for International Business from Mark Haines, head of corporate banking at HSBC
Describing his accolade as “the icing on the cake”, Ranger said: “Sun Mark’s motto is ‘We only succeed when our customer succeeds’, a principal which has held the company in good stead and been the base for its fantastic success.”
And he said that he believes that the company can afford to lose money but not customers, as money can always be earned back.
