We continued chatting and then another warning flag – he was asking me if his son could call me ‘mom’..I hadn’t even met this guy, or his son! Yet he was asking me if his son could call me ‘mom’. Anyway fast forward a month or so and he asked me for money. Straight away I said no and ceased contact. Now I’m not a heartless ‘b*t*h’ but I do like to treat people as I would like to be treated and I would never in a million years ask ‘a stranger’ for money. I would turn to family/friends first.

Some warning signs ● They will often be a widow ● They will often be living overseas ● They will become intense very quickly, calling you ‘honey’ saying I love you.

So why do some people fall for this. When we are alone – sometimes we get lonely, desperate and feel that we are not worthy. These people know this. Sometimes when you’ve been on your own a while – you want to hear someone say “I love you, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you’ – so these con artists on the internet think all their christmases have come at once. profiles…as I say – generally a photo of good looking guy with/without children. They befriend you, flatter you, talk of a future with you, moving to wherever your living and then they start to ask for money. When your lonely – that’s just what you want to hear, your vulnerable. These men know this. These men/women telling you how gorgeous you are – how much they want to build a life with you. But in reality – you must feel this way yourself – you ARE gorgeous.

Don’t Get Conned – You are Worth More I know what its like to be single and no its not always easy but the answer is not to pay someone to be with you either. If someone asks you for money on line…then run and keep running. There was even a story of a well known person in New Zealand, who got chatting to a man on the internet – he invited her over to where he was living…paid for her ticket and then changed her flight to go through Argentina. Somehow she picked her a package for him and it turned out to be drugs – now shes in deep trouble. The internet is a wonderful thing in many ways – its also a scary place to be if your vulnerable and lonely. So lets show these con artists…how empowered WE ARE and we are NOT to be messed with !! )
