TEN places in the Danish Under- 21 final were up for grabs and it proved to be a fierce battle to qualify. The pre-meeting favourite, Nordic


NATIONAL LONGTRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WAUSEON, OHIO FRIDAY, JULY 20 DAN Weicht retained the longtrack title after a closely-contested race with John Debats and Ohio State champion Chad Rall, who was third in 2011 as well.


Chris Hathaway had to ward off a determined challenge from 63-year-old Ronnie Rall (Chad’s father) in the B- Main. Ronnie, an inductee to the AMA’s Hall of Fame for his flat-track reputation, was only headed by a bike’s length at the finish.


A-Main: Weicht, Debats, C.Rall, Steve Brinker, John Massie, Alan Rush (New Zealand).

TUFF McBride went into the A-final on 11 points with Dave Clark the


rider to deny him a maximum in the qualifying heats.


Also through to the final with nine points each were Adam Mittl, Jerry Harman and Gene Bonsignore. In a tight dash for the first bend, McBride made a superb start but the referee put up the red light for a restart. In this Clark was penalised 20 yards for delaying the re- run. Finally Mittl surged into the lead and went on to win from Harman. Main final: Mittl, Harman, McBride, Bonsignore, Clark (ret).


B-final: Jesse Diem, John Lewis, Zack Peters, Russ Cornell.

Under-21 Champion Marc Randrup, made his return after injury and had to be content with a third in his first race when Emil Grondal and Patrick Bjerregaard both blocked him off. Grondal lost out to Esbjerg youngster Kasper Lykke in his next race but from then on he never looked back to finish the day on top of the rostrum with 14 points. Randrup finished second after following his opening race with four straight wins, but third place overall had to be decided with a run-off between two rising stars, with Rasmus Jensen getting the better of Kasper Lykke.

Auburn’s David Mersaroli won the Youth A main event.


The six riders seeded directly to the final at Vojens on August 10 are Michael Jepsen Jensen, Mikkel B.Jensen, Mikkel Michelsen, Nicklas Porsing, Nikolaj B.Jakobsen and reigning champion Lasse Bjerre.
