Malone, Simon Philips, Steve Pearce and youngster Jake Quintrell could also be in the scrap for podium places here. A strong Upright entry should see another great scrap between Wayne Barrett and the reigning British Pre-75 Champion Tim Curnock with the likes of Ian Gutteridge, Keith Snelling and Luke Cox in pursuit.

The busy Malone takes on a third class in the Pre-75s where Calvin Palmer, Snelling and the Harris brothers Colin and Derren should all feature prominently. Youth racing completes the programme where the likes of Harry McGurk (Autos), Kyle Bickley (Juniors) and Callum Walker and Luke Harris (Inters) will be looking to get in a positive set of rides ahead of next week’s British Youth Championships.

ADAM Shipp looked all set for victory in the Eastern Centre

Championships at Iken on Sunday, hosted by the Woodbridge club.

But the day concluded in frustrating fashion for the twice former British 250cc Champion who dominated the early stages of the quarter-litre class, only to lose out on both the championship and in the one-off race for his late father Barry’s memorial trophy.

There was no sign of the trouble to come as Shipp roared to convincing wins in the first three of the four championship legs, leaving Jed Rolph, Chris Still and Trevor Clarricoats to engage in some great scraps behind him for the places. However, the problems began when Shipp switched from his four-stroke to his dad’s old two stroke for the Memorial Trophy race.

The engine mis-fired from the off and although he led almost throughout, the problem meant he had to coast the final two turns, allowing the much-improved Clarricoats to catch him on the line and steal victory.

A loose wire was found to be the culprit and Shipp switched back to the four-stroke for the final leg of the Championship.

However disaster struck again as the tapes rose when immediately Shipp put the bike into second gear it flipped and left him on the ground.

Clarricoats was again the man to profit, taking victory in the final heat to seal the class win with Rolph taking runner-up spot and relegating Shipp to third.

Georgie Wood was another to experience a bitter-sweet day. The teenage starlet looked the likely winner of the 350s after getting the better of Richard Smith and Matt

Etherington in the early heats of this class.

However, his hopes were dashed by a technical problem in the final leg, where victory for Etherington saw him take the championship from Smith on count-back after the two finished level on points. There was better news for Wood where he fought a day-long battle Darren Rolph. A former winner of the Eastern Centre crown, Rolph led the open event by two wins to one going into the final leg, but Wood got it right when it really counted to take victory in the final race and win on count-back from his much more experienced rival. Reigning Masters Champions Rod

Winterburn/Liam Brown made their rare trip to East Anglia worthwhile with a dominant victory in the 1,000cc right- handers. Robbie Wilson/Bradley Steer got the better of some great scraps behind the Northern Invaders to beat Colin Blackbourn/Carl Pugh into third place. Charlie Ridley/Steve Bowles proved kings of the left-handers after coming out on top in battles with Andy Pack/Michael Chittenden, while back in solo action a faultless maximum saw Graeme Brown claim the Upright crown and Connor Locke provided the best of the youth action looking very fast in taking the Intermediate honours.
