European Sidecar Champions – for the tenth time! – Tommy Kunert and Markus Eibl. Picture: DANIEL SIEVERS
Championship title at Werlte on Saturday (July 28). Kunert, with Markus Eibl in the chair, first won the event in 1995 with Wolfgang Maier and claimed his tenth victory last weekend when he defeated the previously unbeaten Mark Venus in the final.
G
It meant he tied the record for most title wins, Onderka having lifted the trophy on 10 occasions between 1986 and 2002.
The European Solo semi-final was held on the same card at Werlte, British duo Richard Hall and Paul Cooper both finishing in the top nine to qualify for the final at Eenrum in Holland later this month.
JOSH Dingle and James Shanes will be two of the star attractions at Bridgwater & District Motor Club’s meeting this Sunday (August 5). Dingle heads the solo open entry in round four of his South-Western Centre Championship defence in this class, while Shanes, one of the revelations of the campaign in his debut season at adult level, will be the one to beat in the 250s.
ERMAN star Tommy Kunert joined Josef Onderka in the history books when he raced to a record-equalling tenth European Sidecar
Among those gunning for Dingle in the Open event will be experienced heads Jason Prynne and Rod Melksham, while Jody Hodgson should also be in contention and there is a rare appearance from Mark Collins.
Collins is also among those looking for Shanes’ scalp in the quarter litre event, while dad Jon will also give chase to his son and the likes of Chris Malone, John Weeks and Adam Hawker should also be in the mix.
Meanwhile, the 1,000cc right-hand sidecars will look to get their names engraved on the Den Carter trophy in an event packed with South-Western Centre regulars.
Clive Stoneman/Rowland Broomfield could be the ones to catch here, while Simon Heal/Terry Madley, Joe Trewin/Jason Barry, John Hiscock/Carl Bell, Joe Mogg/Jake Cutler and Mark Warren/Mark Wilkes could all be among the frontrunners in the chase for the silverware.
Back in the solos, Chris Johnson gets his first chance to race since his brilliant third at the British Championships in Cornwall last month
Nathan Irwin makes a long awaited return from injury - a return much delayed by the recent spate of postponements - while reigning SW Centre champion Barry Powell will be in the thick of things once more.
