ETERBOROUGH look like being without Olly Allen for the remainder of the season. The unlucky Allen broke his left arm in his opening ride for Rybnik at Rawicz in a Polish Division Two play-off clash on Sunday. With 10 crucial Elite League meetings scheduled for August, the Panthers are keen to try and sign a replacement as soon as possible. Co-boss Jan Staechmann said:

“It’s a big blow to lose an experienced rider and it’s obviously not good news either for Olly who we wish a speedy recovery. “The only way forward is to bring in a short-term replacement. We cannot contemplate running the rider replacement facility for any length of time.

“Being without a rider puts too much strain on the rest of the team. If one man has an off-night, then the entire house of cards comes tumbling down.”

Mark Lemon, Kyle Newman and Kyle Howarth during Heat 12 of the Newcastle v Workington meeting

WORKINGTON Boss Keith Denham says he was unimpressed with the state of the Newcastle track before their league clash there got underway on Sunday. So imagine his feelings as he watched Kyle Howarth being carted off with a broken wrist, cracked hip and a small fracture in his back.

“I think it was the worst track I had seen. I was so upset afterwards that I told the Newcastle management it should be bombed,” stormed Denham.

“Kyle Howarth had two falls and as a result his season is over now and this meeting has ruined our prospects. Tero

Aarnio and Rene Bach also took knocks but they should be okay for three-in-a-row starting at Redcar on Thursday. “I lost count of the number of falls there were in the meeting and I think there were seven re-runs. I just can’t understand how the referee Stuart Wilson and the Newcastle management didn’t realise how bad it was.”
