BRUCE FLANDERS’ UGLY HAWAIIAN SHIRT NIGHT INDUSTRY HILLS, CALIFORNIA WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 BILLY Hamill spent another entire evening in front of his competitors by going five for five on Bruce Flanders’ Ugly Hawaiian Shirt Night at Industry Racing. Hamill wisely chose gate one for the Main Event and it paid off when he launched into the lead when the tapes went up. Shawn McConnell and the previous week’s winner, Buck Blair, gave chase on the back straight.

Hamill opened up a comfortable lead but McConnell and Blair were fighting tooth-and-nail for second. McConnell was planted on the inside line while Blair was making the outside work and the pair battled back and forth. Hamill won handily but the war for second went to the bitter end. McConnell lifted coming out of the final corner but held off Blair for second. The event was held to honour track announcer Bruce Flanders, who is a motorsports announcing icon. In addition to speedway, Flanders has

SAN BERNADINO, CALIFORNIA FRIDAY, JULY 20 BILLY Hamill followed up his perfect evening at Industry Hills with another unbeaten night at Inland Motorcycle Speedway.

The line-up for the Main Event had Hamill in gate one, Eddie Castro off two, Tim Gomez in three, Shawn McConnell in four and Tyson Talkington off the outside.

McConnell made the best start and got across the others to lead into turn one as Hamill went to the cushion to try to get around him.

McConnell drifted wide to protect his lead but Hamill found ample traction and made a thrilling pass by squeezing through the narrow gap between McConnell and the wall.

That spectacular move was the end of the drama as the former World Champion raced into the horizon to blaze to a comfortable victory. Kurtis Hamill also won the Youth 250cc Main Event to complete a family double.

Main Event: Hamill, McConnell, Gomez, Castro, Talkington.
