equine news editor’s intro
As this issue goes to press, we’re hearing of show and event cancellations almost hourly and stories of soggy show outings are depressingly numerous. However, having spent an interesting day at a very busy Northumberland County Show, it’s great to see that the recession hasn’t dampened enthusiasm too much and we’ve put together a great picture feature from the show. Wet weather can cause as many injuries as hard ground, with slipping and sliding sometimes resulting in dangerous puncture wounds, so our veterinary feature on what to look out for offers timely advice. With everyone now talking about the Olympics, we know quite a few of our readers have tickets and we’d love to hear your stories, so do email us, or post on our facebook page. If you like eventing, then be sure to enter our fabulous giveaway for Season Memberships, with campsite space, for Blair Castle International Horse Trials & Country Fair. This is the first major 3DE fixture after the Olympics and it promises to be a great opportunity to see team riders in action over the scenic Blair Castle terrain. We’ll be including the official preview supplement for Blair Castle free within the August issue of Equine magazine - so make sure of your copy with a subscription, which is great value at £28.80 for 12 issues, as we pay the postage! You can subscribe online. As our new website -
www.theequinesite.co.uk becomes busier, there are some lovely horses for sale, but I can’t resist scrolling through all the lovely properties posted, which hopefully means people are feeling a bit more positive about that important benchmark of economic confidence, the housing market. If you haven’t got a money tree in your garden, check out what our testers have to say about grooming products and fly repellents; their findings just might save you a few pounds towards your next show outing!
