native roundup Welsh

Well things have been busy as usual here at Camalsa stud, writes Lesley Cameron, starting with the engagement of Abigail Cameron and Jamie Summerbell.

The Avon Valley Tidy Memorial Show, a very worthy fixutre in aid of ‘The Equine Grass Sickness Fund’ on May 20; was an ideal location to take our young welsh section D filly ‘Powysvalley Pearl’ for her first outing and she took reserve youngstock and reserve overall welsh section D champion. Well done to Camalsa Harley (welsh D x)and Liz Goodwin on their coloured native traditional in hand win. Harley is a great ambassador for the show, having survived grass sickness two years ago. Well done also to Sandra Sanderson with her homebred ‘Colandra Summer Breeze’ welsh section B, overall supreme champion of show.

On the theme of welsh section B’s, Sam Wallace andr lovely pony ‘Waterings Dunlightly’, sec B earned bronze and NPS silver medal winners at SWPC spring show on May 27, adding another NPS silver medal at Cumberland County on May 29. Keeping it in the family, Amanda Wallace’s yearling section B Llandar Mimosa Starlight won her 1st bronze medal at the Scottish and

Northern summer show on June 2. Here at the stud we have had a few visiting mares and two of our mares scanned in foal, Bryncadano Ellen to our lovely Jim ‘Llanfyllin Shooting Star’ and Hope Geraldine, a welsh section A, to Coffeepot stud’s lovely dun stallion Ceulan Cariadwr. Due to a family bereavement we had a quiet week or so before getting back on track at Midland Counties Show, Arena UK on June 3 where ‘Llanfyllin Shooting Star’ competed in his first HOYS qualifier of the season on a day when water wings would not have been out of place. We were very pleased with 5th out of a class of 48, with some stunning horses forward. Congratulations to winner Richard Telford who took the HOYS ticket. Jack went into a C/D ridden class and we were pleased to see him pulled in 3rd, only to lose his place when deciding the bad weather would affect how he stood in the line up...... things to work on there Mr Glantraeth Jack Daniels!!!! The following Tuesday saw the last of the RIHS qualifiers in this area and we

took Jim along. Although held indoors, a large class of C’s and D’s managed very well and Jim took a respectable 3rd amongst quality ponies. Manners were fundamental, with 4th and 5th losing their placings due to not standing whilst receiving rosettes. We must all learn to stand!

Northern All Welsh on June 10 at Wetherby Racecourse was blessed with lovely weather. Due to Abigail working, the ridden boys had home day and Pearl had an outing, taking 2nd in the yearling filly class. Overall in hand champion went to Stuart McNeal and his deserving mare ‘Hillgarth Wendy’. The ridden championship went to lovely welsh section D mare ‘Yswain Ameranthus’ with Claire Kitchen. We are just about to attend the wedding of Sophie Chapman and Ben Spence so early congratulations and good luck, then it’s North Yorkshire County, a local favorite of the stud, The Royal Highland, The Great Yorkshire and The Royal Welsh so we should have some great reports and hopefully some great results for the next issue.

The Complete Sweet Itch and Bug solution from Snuggy Hoods

Following extensive trials in 2011, Snuggy Hoods has found its Sweet Itch Body is the best at keeping biting insects at bay, whilst encouraging a beautiful coat and a happy equine. The Snuggy Hoods Sweet Itch Body has been designed specifically for Sweet Itch, Queensland Itch and Summer Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis (SSRD) safely and effectively covering all ‘majorly attacked’ areas - leaving less gaps for unwanted visitors or potential damage to skin and hair.

Comprising a hood and rug set; the hood is lined through the mane, self-fixing, complete with ears and fly fringe. The rug covers the chest, heart area and belly and an attached wraparound tail guard prevents creepy crawlies attacking his tail. Unique to this rug are the Sheath or Udder guards that can be purchased to keep these sensitive areas insect free. Front legs can also be helped by a clever pair of covers that attach to the inside of the belly band.

Whilst a repair kit is included with every hood and rug, Snuggy Hoods is the only company to offer a full repair and alteration service, available on all products at nominal cost – resulting in years of fly free use. Fully breathable, machine washable, lightweight, water repellent and comfortable, Snuggy Hoods have been offering worldwide relief to horses for years. Hood and rug available separately; headless version also available. Costs around £198 – nose to tail.

Also available is a Sweet Itch pack; this includes a Sweet Itch Hood and Rug, an udder or sheath cover, and Skito Stop Spray. Other money saving packs are available, for more information please visit www.snuggyhoods.com or email sales@snuggyhoods. com or call 01225 783399.
