…….. this second instalment of the team’s diary on the lead up to this year’s event comes from Rebecca Horne
event is thirsty work. We have designed a new food area on the East side of the Tummel arena and thanks to our fabulous Facebook friends getting involved in our competition to name this area, it has been dubbed: The Stirrup Cup!

Well, what an exciting few weeks we had up here at Blair since you last heard from me! It was announced at the beginning of June that we have won the bid to host the 2015 FEI Eventing European Championships, which will be held between the 10th and 13th September 2015! This news has caused great excitement within the office and we’re all hoping to be able to come back and join all of you as spectators. Of course there has been much discussion over the choice of the Olympic team in the eventing world since the announcement and it has put us all into an Olympic frenzy. We’re all
getting very excited to realise how soon it will be before we are down in Greenwich, well some of us at least..... sorry Rupert and Kirsty; you’ll just have to watch on the tele! We all truly feel that Blair will be extra special this year, being the first event at this level after the Olympics and we hope to see all five members of the Olympic team at the event, maybe even with medals swinging from their necks...? This brings me on to what we’ve been getting up to here. The office is a hive of activity, with endless meetings, the phone ringing off the hook and lots of tea drinking; planning every last detail of the
Being such a small team up here Kirsty, Holly and I have discovered the more gruelling side of the job recently; painting the hundreds of posts that line the cross country course and make up the arenas! This has led to us spending many afternoons down in the sheds, generally getting more white paint on ourselves than actually on the posts. But if the paint sticks to the posts as well as it’s stuck to our skin, they won’t need doing again for years. Let’s just hope the weather doesn’t let us down. I want to extend a massive thank you to all the wonderful people who have got in touch to volunteer this year. We’ve had so many, we’ve managed to fill most positions on Thursday and Friday; however we do still need more super people to be crossing stewards and pole picker-uppers over the weekend. I also need a couple of dedicated people to be in the secretaries’ tent throughout the week. Please see our website www.
blairhorsetrials.co.uk if you would like to be part of this year’s event. All of our schedules, including the British Showjumping schedule, are now up on the website and our qualifiers are going very well throughout Scotland. Our box office is still open and don’t forget about our event campsite…packages are available from just £86 for a weekend camping and admission bundle for two people.
(You can win one of two weekend camping packages at Blair Castle for this year’s event in this issue of equine magazine – get your entry in! – Ed)
Cumberland Farmers Hunt (South) Pony Club held its summer Combined Training competition near Clifton on June 7, by kind permission of Mr Alan Jenkinson writes Margaret Francis
We had good entries in all twenty five classes with competitors from CFHS, neighbouring Branches of the Pony Club and from as far as Newcastle and Glasgow. The rain mainly held off until the end of the day, making the ground a little testing for riders, as it did become somewhat slippery. Our four Dressage Judges, Mrs Fiona Busby, Mrs Nancy Rowson, Mrs Shelia Campbell and Ms Naomi Garbutt had a long and arduous task, as this was also a selection day for the CFHS Areas Teams 2012, but all commented on how well the children rode.
In the Combined Training competition the Show Jumping proved influential and those who completed the track, built by British Show Jumping (BS) course builder John Collier from Blackdyke Farm Riding & Competition Centre using the BS Area 14 jumps, really deserved their prizes.
Our two Burghley Event pony qualifiers were well supported. CFHS has nominated Becky Thompson and Hannah Parkin to take part in the Pony Club section of this prestigious event on September 2.
