#15 STeve MATHeWS HOMETOWN: New Liskeard, Ontario // BIRTHDATE: August 27, 1990

SPONSORS/MAKE: Bill Mathews Motors / John Mathews Body Shop – Ford Fusion

NOTABLE: Mathews ran just eight events in 2011, but came away with one pole position (at Kawartha Speedway) plus one top-five, and three top-ten finishes. Mathews led laps on every oval track he raced on last year, his best result (a fourth) came on the ½-mile Delaware Speedway where he chased past Canadian champions Don Thomson Jr., Scott Steckly and DJ Kennington to the stripe. Due to a limited budget, Mathews plans to pass on the western swing this year, but hopes to run all of the Ontario and Quebec rounds.

QUOTABLE: “The trick is to be well prepared and ready to race when you arrive at the track. If you have all of the little things in place, you can focus on setup and strategy. We’re set to go and I believe that with some luck, we can finish in the top five on every oval and crack top tens on the road courses.”

#17 dj KeNNiNGToN HOMETOWN: St. Thomas, Ontario // BIRTHDATE: July 15, 1977

SPONSORS/MAKE: Castrol Edge / Mahindra Tractors / SuperClean / Hitachi Power Tools / Cathcart Trucking / Contact Welding Supplies – Dodge Challenger R/T

NOTABLE: Riding a 2011 record of two race wins (Mosport RC/ Kawartha), one pole position (Saskatoon), eight top-five and ten top-ten results, this 2010 NCATS champion took the points chase to the final event, but fell one place shy of a title repeat, finishing second (by 79 points) to Scott Steckly. DJ is currently tied for second place (with Steckly) for series’ race wins (11), and will be looking to overtake Andrew Ranger’s total of 14 victories in 2012.

QUOTABLE: “After you’ve got your first championship, there’s only one goal after that, and that’s another one. We were good enough to do it last year, but in two races we got wrecked, and that was the difference. We’ve got the same cars, the same motors, the same crew, so we’re ready to go for it this year.”

#21 jASoN WHiTe HOMETOWN: Sun Peaks, British Columbia // BIRTHDATE: May 3, 1973

SPONSORS/MAKE: A&W Restaurants / Special Olympics (ON) / Castrol Edge / Bowers & Wilkins – Dodge Challenger

This former speed-skier finished in eighth place overall last year with a record of five top-ten results, his best finishes (a pair of sixths) com- ing on the road courses of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Trois Rivieres. For 2012, White’s #21 Dodge will be prepared and run out of the DJ Kennington stable.

QUOTABLE: “I’ve put myself into a position to win, and it’s time to put up or shut up. I’ve never had my focus on winning like this before. It’s been such a struggle to get this far, this year I’m going to give it all I’ve got.”
