THe seRIes: The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series was estab- lished by NASCAR in 2007 after it purchased the Canadian Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (CASCAR) in 2006.


THe sPonsoR: Canadian Tire operates an inter-related net- work of businesses engaged in retailing (hardgoods, ap- parel and petroleum) and services (financial and automotive) throughout Canada.


THe CaRs: The fiberglass-bodied cars house a 350-360 cubic inch V8 motor. They weigh 3,000 lbs. and have a wheelbase of 107 inches. They run on unleaded racing fuel and have an estimated top speed of 160 mph.


THe sCHeDule: The 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series opened May 20 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (for- merly Mosport International Raceway), near Bowmanville, Ontario. The series is featured at many of Canada’s top oval tracks and road courses, from British Columbia to the Maritimes. Of the 12 scheduled events, five are road races, while seven are contested on short track ovals. Highlight events include the tour’s appearances during the NASCAR Nationwide Series race weekend at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Edmonton Indy race weekend and at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.

Championship points will be awarded to each driver and to each car of a car owner in each event, according to their finishing position in the event, as follows:

•In addition to the foregoing, one (1) point will be awarded for positions after 43rd place • If a car makes a qualifying attempt, but fails to earn one of the available starting positions, the car owner and driver will be awarded points, starting with the position following the last position in the starting field. • A driver will be credited only with points earned in the car in which he/she started the race, and the starting driver will be credited with all points earned by that car in that race. To be eligible for points, the car must be en- tered in the event and the driver must start the race. A driver cannot receive points for more than one car in the race. • Three additional bonus points will be awarded to each driver and car owner that wins the race, one additional bonus point will be awarded to each driver and car owner whose car officially leads a lap, and one addi- tional bonus point will be awarded to the driver and car owner leading the most official laps. (In the event of ties, duplicate points will be awarded.) NASCAR Officials will deter- mine the official leader(s) of the race. The of- ficial lap leader and finishing positions will be determined at the start/finish line.
