Bhubaneswar plus points – surplus power, water and clean air

Bhubaneswar is situated in the eastern coastal plains of Oris- sa and south-west of the Ma- hanadi river and is divided into a number of townships. The modern city of Bhubaneswar was designed by the German architect Otto Konigsberger in 1946 and is a happy combina- tion of old world charm and new world comforts.


The city is seeing winds of change of recent, trying to capitalise on its strengths – surplus power and water. Though it is traditionally known for mineral and metals, the State’s youth have started seeing benefits in large scale entrepreneurship, thanks to infusion of private equity, in diversified industrial and ser- vices sector.


The government, realising the untapped potential that ex- ists in the city, has become an enabler of business. Every major project, from infrastruc- ture based “Port” to knowl- edge based “Biotech Park” , the government has become a change-agent. The World Bank had indicated that the city was the third best city in the coun- try to do business, whereas the Thirteenth Finance Com- mission has projected Odisha to be number two in the coun- try in its growth between 2010- 11 and 2014-15; a Gross State

Odisha State is blessed with natural and biological re- sources, however commerciali- zation and productization of locally available bio-resources through applied biotechnolo- gies have been challenging. Biotech-Investors and Bio- Entrepreneurs in Odisha may target healthcare (human/ veterinary), agriculture (seeds and crops, medicinal plants/


created by a group of local entrepreneurial, NROs, ROs and supported by the Odisha Government and other public/ private parties have broad- based interests in promoting technology entrepreneurships and new ventures, including biotechnologies in Odisha.
