Ultrascape: specified for the longest high street in Wales

Welsh city, Bangor, is home to the longest high street in Wales. It has recently been re-surfaced using Ultrascape Pro-Bed HS bulk, Pro-Prime, Flowpoint ECO and EP-R9.

As part of a Gwynedd Council £3.5million regeneration project*, Bangor now boasts an impressive new paved high street and side streets.

The refurbishment was completed using Ultrascape’s BS7533 compliant mortar paving system and resinous mortar EP-R9. The Ultrascape mortar paving system, a range of bedding, priming and jointing materials, meets and exceeds the strict demands of BS7533. It offers the reassurance of being independently tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory which verifies its capabilities; an essential requirement when selecting materials for a scheme.

Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar in bulk, Pro-Prime slurry primer and Flowpoint ECO non-staining grout, were all specified for this Welsh urban regeneration project.

Dawnus Construction, the project’s main contractor, ordered Pro-Bed HS in bulk mortar silos from Ultrascape. Accommo- dating 30 tonnes of material in a single load and chamber they are perfect for use on large projects.

Ideal in such public areas, fine bedding mortar, Pro-Bed HS has extremely fast strength gain, meaning that pedestrian areas can be trafficked in as little as 12 hours and vehicular areas in as little as 24 hours.

Ultrascape Pro-Prime slurry primer was used in conjunction with Pro-Bed HS to provide the exceptional paving bond as required by the British Standard.

Ultrascape Flowpoint ECO grout was chosen as it is ideal for urban regeneration projects, allowing large areas to be pointed with ease, and simply washed clean. Flowpoint ECO offers the added benefit of containing 20% recycled material; ideal for schemes looking to achieve an ‘excellent’ CEEQUAL award.

Ultrascape EP-R9 is a resinous mortar, which provides exceptional strength and bond for areas under extreme stresses. It is perfectly suited for bonding to steel, such as recessed manhole covers and was specified on this project.

The completed new look high street has helped to revitalise Bangor as a premier shopping destination in Wales, supporting local businesses.

*This project is being funded through the Assembly Govern- ment’s £38million North Wales Regeneration Scheme delivered in partnership with Councils and is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the European Union’s Convergence programme and the Welsh Assembly Government’s Mon Menai Regeneration Area Initiative.
