Heritage Rainwater System chosen for historic Luton Hoo
Clague Architects specified the Heritage system as it was in keeping with both the new and refurbished areas which have been designed to carefully respect the setting of the historic estate. It was also important that Alumasc was able to offer technical and on-site support throughout the installation.
Alumasc’s Heritage Cast Aluminium Rainwater System has provided a high performance solution for Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire - an eighteenth century mansion now in use as a five star hotel, golf and spa.
The original Grade I listed mansion house at Luton Hoo was designed by Robert Adam, with gardens created by Capability Brown. The estate was acquired by the Elite Hotels Group in 1999 and underwent an extensive restoration and refurbishment programme to create the present- day luxury hotel.
Alumasc Heritage Aluminium 125mm half-round gutter profile and 102mm downpipe has been used on the most recent phase. This work involved the refurbishment and construction of a number of buildings including the Parkland Wing, the Garden Wing and Stables conversion.
The Heritage range is ideal for traditionally designed buildings and can be used as a direct replacement of cast iron while offering all the benefits of modern aluminium casting techniques and factory finish. The system has minimal maintenance requirements and is lightweight, durable and easy to handle and fix.
The half-round profile in PPC Black chosen for Luton Hoo is one of five profiles that are available in the range, alongside a choice of imperial sizes and RAL colours to suit all projects.
Heritage Cast Aluminium is also available ex- stock with the popular textured black PPC finish, in Half Round 4”, 4½” and 5” profiles and Circular Pipe in 2½” and 3” diameters, offering an unrivalled lead time of 3 days. Alumasc are the only manufacturer to supply their Aluminium Rainwater Systems accredited with BBA Approved Powder Coatings.

Delcote - A safe bet for Alphameric During
refurbishment of their Andover premises, Alphameric Solutions, the leading technology provider to the bookmarking marketplace in the United Kingdom and Ireland
discovered that the pvc coated steel roof sheets had clearly reached their ‘re-paint decision time’ as defined by Corus the original
steel cladding manufacturers and had finally succumbed to a combination of edge corrosion and age related surface delamination.
The busy office complex could not be disturbed so after taking advice from steel makers Corus the project management team Project Perceptions Limited chose to re-coat the roof with Delcote, the silicone coating system from Manchester based manufacturer Delvemade Ltd, which could offer negligible site disruption whilst providing complete weather and corrosion resistance for years to come. Qualified applicator Kettles Ltd first treated the roof to Seamsil, preventing further corrosion to the critical lap joints and other areas of cut

edges and fixings followed by the Delcote silicone coating applied to a finish colour of white.
Delcote is a liquid silicone coating used to re- paint existing pvc and pvf2 profiled metal roofing to provide protection equal to, or better than, the original product. Used in conjunction with Seamsil cut edge corrosion and overlap treatment the full system offers a seamsil silicone solution to the long term protection of most existing metal roofs.
Keylite launches solution for creative flat roof window design
Further increasing the design opportunities for specifiers and self builders, Keylite Roof Windows has launched a Flat Roof Apex (FRX) system to complement its innovative range of roof window solutions.
Historically associated with pitched roofs, the Keylite FRX system now brings this same creative freedom to flat roof designs - making it perfect for a
wide variety of new build, extension and refurbishment projects. Available in single, double or triple window configurations, the system creates a highly desirable glazed atrium effect, flooding the room below in natural daylight.
John Duffin, Managing Director of Keylite, said, “As a sophisticated design statement, apex windows have always been a popular architectural feature for pitched roofs, but until recently the alternatives for flat roofs have been somewhat limited. At Keylite, we believe that innovation and choice are key market drivers, so we wanted to re- dress the balance by developing a practical and attractive solution that would open up the design possibilities across a range of applications.”
The Keylite FRX system is supplied complete with roof windows, fully insulated up-stand and precision flashings, to enable quick and easy installation. A number of glazing options are available to suit all build requirements, including Thermal Glazing, Hi-Therm Glazing and even Triple Glazing, which offers an extremely low U-value of just 0.7w/m2k, as well as superior sound insulation.
Internally, the system offers a similar breadth of choice, with the roof windows available in either high-quality, FSC certified timber or a sleek white finish. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms or any room prone to dust or steam, the white finish windows benefit from a wipe-clean polyurethane painted finish that is resistant to moisture and requires little or no maintenance.

Gradient Roofing solution helps take education to a higher level
An historic building at The University of Manchester has undergone a complete roof refurbishment with help from the UK experts in single-layer tapered roofing. Gradient Flat Roofing supplied 3,000sq mtrs of its Powerdeck F tapered insulation to provide the University’s Ellen Wilkinson Building with a modern and reliable roof solution that now provides significantly improved thermal performance and excellent rainwater run-off.
Northwest based multi-disciplined waterproofing contractor, Rooftop Solutions, chose a Gradient solution for this project, with the two companies having worked together on a number of successful previous contracts. The four separate roofs which make up the project were stripped back to the decking before the Gradient tapered insulation was applied over a waterproofing membrane. The project team faced a number of challenges including unexpectedly high levels of rainfall, limited access to the building, lack of storage space on the site plus the need to complete the work during the University’s busy exam period.
The off-site manufacturing also allowed Gradient to schedule deliveries of the

insulation so that the need for site storage was reduced, and any disruption to the building’s occupants was minimised. Charles Openshaw, Rooftop Solutions Managing Director, commented “This wasn’t the simplest of jobs but it was certainly a success. Having worked with Gradient before we were confident that they could help us tackle the challenges and meet the tight deadlines involved and they did not let us down.”
