Specify synthetic surfaces with Playrite’s RIBA accredited CPD
Since Playrite’s CPD Presentation ‘Specifying Synthetic Grass for Sport and Play’ became accredited by RIBA last year, over 50 architects have completed the CPD online and we’ve been lucky enough to have had the chance to present at various architect practices and schools across the country, including the DCE event, South Yorkshire Buildingex, at Sheffield in February. The feedback we’ve received from our CPD so far has been excellent with comments on how useful and interesting the presentation is as well as feedback on how clear, well designed and easy it is to follow.
So how could our CPD help you?
‘Specifying Synthetic Grass for Sport and Play’ provides information that every decision maker will need to know when specifying synthetic grass for sport and play at schhols, leisure centres and playgrounds. It includes vital information on maintenance regimes, different manufacturing processes and details Playrite’s impact on the environment and our green credentials. It will also help you to understand the various industry standards, explain how synthetic grass surfaces can benefit your projects as well as giving an overview into who we are and what we do.
But what makes Playrite’s CPD different to anyone else’s? Well to start with it is RIBA accredited, which means that the Royal Institute of British Architecture has assessed the presentation to ensure the information is relevant, unbiased and worthwhile. Also because we are the only UK manufactur- ers of needlepunch, woven and tufted surfaces we can give a completely impartial overview of the different surface options available for a selection of projects as well as being able to offer advice on which surfaces are best for specific sports and which is best for multi sport use.

Edinburgh Leisure’s Shirley Bowman believes it’s the best way of managing costs whilst keeping sports pitches at peak performance. “Replay Maintenance undertakes its Revive service on all pitches an agreed number of times a year. I know they will do the work when they are scheduled to, in a safe and professional manner, and the quality is excellent so it’s one less thing I and my groundsmen have to worry about.”
The Revive process uses a specially developed, single operator machine to remove contaminants from in-filled and water-based synthetic turf carpet as well as polymeric surfaces. Rotary brushes penetrate deeper into

the in-fill than static brushes, breaking up the contamination crust and removing it with a powerful vacuum filter system for disposal off site. The sand or rubber in-fill is then filtered, dropped back onto the surface and worked in using a static brush head in the first instance, followed by a drag mat. The process helps reduce compaction of the surface enhances its porosity and helps maintain the playing characteristics.
