Easter delights at The Seven Wonders of the Weald


THIS Easter the Seven Wonders of the Weald will be welcoming visitors to some of the South East’s best loved attractions. The Wonders include beautiful gardens, stately homes and castles, a steam railway and a working vineyard.


The historic Penshurst Place and Gardens is the latest attraction to become a Wonder of the Weald and sits alongside Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest, Marle Place Gardens & Gallery, Biddenden Vineyards, Merriments Gardens, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Chiddingstone Castle & Gardens.


Special Easter events are taking place at the Seven Wonders of the Weald:


Chiddingstone Castle Chiddingstone Castle is open Sundays, Mondays,


Tuesdays and Wednesdays from April 6. On April 15 the castle will be holding its annual Egyptian Day. This popular event will include Interactive story-telling, belly dancing and the Sussex Egyptology Society will be giving interesting talks entitled ‘An A to Z to Ancient Egypt in 26 minutes’. As well as the lovely gardens, visitors can also enjoy the wonderful collections inside the castle including the fascinating Egyptian and Japanese armour collections, as well as nature trails in the grounds. Visitors can see all the wonderful collections in the castle, but can also arrange to see the new Servants’ Hall and Bedroom if the visiting group is over eight.

The wonders include two delightful gardens;


Merriments Gardens Garden lovers will also enjoy Merriments Gardens in


Hurst Green, East Sussex, which has over four acres of richly planted, colour-themed borders with water features and attractive landscaping. Sit quietly and enjoy watching the birds from the bird-hide in the garden. There are an abundance of rare plants and the garden adjoins a well-stocked nursery, wild bird centre and licensed restaurant.

Tonbridge, opens for the 2012 season on April 1 and is open every day except Thursdays. The 10-acre gardens are a mass of blossom and bulbs in spring with many surprising features to captivate and delight the visitor, including statues, a unique mosaic terrace and pretty Victorian gazebo. A beautifully restored 19th century greenhouse is home to a colourful orchid collection.
