CLASS NOTES In Memoriam
Jane Campbell Munly ’32 Jane Campbell Munly died August 11,
2011. She and Robert Munly Jr. married August 1, 1940. They had children Robert, James, Walter, Mary, several grandchildren, and an increasing number of great-grandchildren. Bob preceded Jane in death in 2003. Jane maintained an active interest and involvement in civic, literary, and church affairs.
Jean Bybee JC ’38
Jean Bybee died October 23, 2010, at age 91. She grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, and she attended Whitman College for a year before moving to Portland where she attended the Junior College for one year. Jean worked as an assistant legal secretary and then a clerk\typist for the Civil Service during the final year of the war. After the war, she earned her BA at Portland State University. She was employed for 14 years with Black, Kendall, Tremaine, Boothe & Higgins, a legal firm in Portland, and for nine years with Hardy, Buttler, McEwen, Weiss & Newman.
Elizabeth Timmons SanChez JC’38
Elizabeth “Timmy” Timmons SanChez, 93, died August 27, 2011. Elizabeth graduated from Commerce (now Cleveland) High School, the Junior College and, finally, from the University of Oregon in 1941, majoring in art and English. In her early career she taught art and writing in various high schools in Oregon. In the late ‘40s she signed on with Jantzen Knitwear, becoming one of their top fabric and swimsuit designers. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, George, and twin sister, Adelaide. She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Pishoneri (Earl) and Georgia SanChez Jacobsen.
Sybil Kennedy Specht ’38
Sybil Kennedy Specht passed away after a short illness in Wheeler on October 23, 2011, at age 91. Sybil grew

up on the VZ Cattle Ranch, 13 miles northwest of Madras. She attended St. Helen’s Hall, and she was a 1942 graduate of Oregon State College and a member of Pi Beta Phi. She married Jack Taylor Mulder, who soon thereafter went missing in action in 1944 in Europe. In 1947, she married Lyle E. Specht in Portland. Sybil taught home economics, sewing and family living for over 20 years at Tillamook High School.
Joyce Atkinson JC ’41
Mrs. Atkinson lived in Portland the majority of her life. She attended Lincoln High School and St. Helen’s Hall Junior College. In 1942, she married David Atkinson of Portland. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Atkinson-Timms, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and son, William Atkinson.
Elia Leibold Bubenik ’43
Elia was born and raised in Portland. She attended Milwaukie High School and received her BA in home economics from the University of Washington, where she belonged to Alpha Phi sorority and made many lifelong friends. Her first career was as a buyer with Olds & King Department Store until her marriage to Miles Bubenik in 1957. She is survived by her husband, Miles Charles Bubenik; sons Blair and Cary Bubenik; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ramin Khalkhali ’80
Ramin Khalkhali passed away October 31, 2011. He was born January 4, 1963. He moved to the U.S.

in 1976 to attend OES and moved to Los Angeles in 1980 where he had resided since. He is best remembered for his insurmountable passion to help and nurture anyone in need, not to mention his unique character and sense of humor. All these characteristics remained throughout his life, even at very challenging times while facing the effects of multiple sclerosis.
Jeannie Rawley
Third Grade teacher Jeannie Rawley died unexpectedly on New Year’s Eve. She was a full-time teacher at OES for 12 years and was much loved by her current and former students. She also had taught yoga to students and colleagues and was known as a knitter, dragon boat paddler, cyclist, and friend. She shared fruit and lavender that she grew on her Hood River-area farm, and she often brought her dog, Bodie, with her to school. Jeannie is survived by her husband, Dan, and children Nicholas, Sarah, and Jeff. A memorial service was held January 28 on the OES campus.
