SPORTS Girls Win State Soccer Trophy

ALL VARSITY TEAMS QUALIFY FOR PLAYOFFS, AND MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS WIN LEAGUE

T

he girls’ varsity soccer team fought their way to the final bracket of the state playoffs where they found themselves facing their

old rival from down the road: Catlin Gabel. Earlier in the season, the Aardvarks had lost to the Eagles once and tied them once. On championship day, they rolled over the Eagles 3-0 to take home the trophy. Hannah H. ’13 made two goals for the Aardvarks and Anastasiya C. ’13 scored the third. Catlin suffered twice in soccer

as the Middle School boys’ team bested them 3-1 in the league championship. Two Aardvark goals were scored by Rowan B. ’16 and one by Alex G. ’16.

The girls’ soccer team was just one of four OES

teams that qualified for state playoffs. The cross country squad qualified as a team for the first time since the 1980s, and junior Nick O. placed fourth among 108 runners in the 3A/2A/1A division. The volleyball team and the boys’ soccer team both made the cut to play at state, but each fell short in the first round. It was the sixth time in the

school’s history that the girls’ soccer team made it to the state championship game, and it was the third win, adding to victories

in 1993 and 2005. Their coach, former Timbers player Scot Thompson, was named Coach of the Year.
