CLASS NOTES The Class of 1966

A few members of the Class of 1966 celebrated their 45th reunion during the OES Reunion Weekend, October 21-22. On Saturday at the luncheon on campus, seven classmates—Susan Marston Bishop, Diana Beebe Buchanan, Kimberly Moyer Beck, Jayne Lilles Hill, Katherine Karafotias, Betsy Marsh and Toni Lehman Pedginski— remembered their years at the Hall. Susan and Toni traveled from Ohio and Minnesota, respectively, to celebrate. Later that evening, Georgiana Calley Antonelli joined Jayne, Betsy, Kimberly, Toni, Katherine, and Susan at dinner at the Oswego Grill. Everyone updated their lives since the last reunion. We revisited our high school experiences with laughter and some surprises. The group decided that we are definitely going to start planning early for our 50th reunion in five years. So, members of the Class of ’66, be on the lookout for notes, letters, emails, even phone calls, from several of us to you. Start making your plans now for our 50th!

Toni Lehman ’66 I teach fourth grade at SCCS. My son

John married and moved to work at the VW plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee; my son Mark is entering pharmacy school this fall.

Marilyn DeVault ’67 I was involved with PICA’s art festival

at Washington High School. Whoop Dee Doo from Missouri creates theater for children. I met them last September with Justin Oswald when I went across country with a live goat in a SUV... 3900 hundred miles to NYC. We did this to help raise money for PEAR. Whoop Dee Doo came to Portland for art and my gluten-free desserts. They are fun people and wanted me to be in their play. I am the old man in the pictures. We were just asked to send in a video to the Food Network. Cross your fingers! My bakery is celebrating 33 years in business! Wow!

Janis Grout ’68 My husband, Randy, and I are empty

nesters now in beautiful Bend, Oregon, where I have lived for more than 30 years. Our daughter, Ingrid, 24, has graduated Portland State and is headed to Thailand to teach English. Olivia, 20, is a sophomore at Gonzaga University majoring in business and dancing at the Zag’s basketball games with the “Bomb Squad” dance team. Since leaving the television industry,

I have been a realtor in Bend with the Garner Group Realtors, one of the top agencies in town, for the past decade. My husband is a general contractor with

offices in Bend and Portland. Thankfully, the housing market is picking up here and we are full steam ahead again. With the girls gone, we are spending more time on the golf course and ski slopes and take annual treks to Palm Desert and Mexico, and we try to spend time with our wonderful daughters as much as possible!

1970s McGregor “Greg” Church ’70

I have been traveling on another world teaching tour. I am a direct disciple of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami since 1973, and I retired from a successful jewelry business three years ago and purchased a small 7-acre farm in rural North Carolina. When I’m not on the farm growing organic fruits and vegetables, I spend as much time as possible traveling with my wife to foreign countries presenting the timeless wisdom of the Vedas, as found in the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. I was recently in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the attached photo is a gathering of students in Sharja, United Arab Emirates. I am presently in Mayapur, West Bengal, India, and will be traveling in this state and other Indian states in the region for the next three months.

“Pepper” Kim Bishop ’72

I just retired after 25 years of teaching at an alternative school in Vancouver, Washington. I have two grandchildren: a 2-year-old granddaughter and an 8-month-old grandson. My most exciting adventure in teaching was being awarded a Confluence Project in the Schools grant in conjunction with the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial. With it, my students created a mixed-media artwork that was displayed in the Clark County Historical Museum for half a year. I still am involved in much volunteer
