CLASS NOTES

Charlotte Lee ’09 We just finished

our fall production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, my Ethics Bowl team qualified for nationals, and in five weeks I will be heading to Europe where I will spend the semester split between London and Florence, and then hopefully spend the summer traveling around Europe. Look for pictures!

and exploring all over Iceland as well as taking Icelandic language, history, and sustainability courses. Earlier in the semester we went on the most famous four-day hiking trail in Iceland (see picture, left). The trail runs between two glaciers, including the volcano Eyjafjallajökul, which erupted in May 2010. Although traveling has been an amazing experience, I’m finding that becoming a part of such a unique community within Sólheimar is the most gratifying. Currently my group and I are all working on research projects on how we propose to make Sólheimar even more sustainable, which will be presented to the village at the end of the program. Living in the land of “Fire and Ice” has been a wonderful and breathtaking experience!

of Wisconsin-Madison and am on UW-Madison’s Lightweight Women’s Rowing Team. In October my team won at the Head of the Charles (it’s held in Boston and is the largest two-day regatta in the world). Also, I’m majoring in biology and environmental studies.

2010s Hannah Teskey ’11

I’m currently attending Occidental College in Pasadena, California, and

absolutely loving it. I started the school year thinking I would major in diplomacy and world affairs and Spanish, but now I’m thinking of pursuing art history as a minor and not doing diplomacy and world affairs. It’s crazy how one class can completely change what you want to pursue! I’m playing lacrosse here and we’ve started practicing already. I’m part of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), which is a committee that plans athletic-related events such as homecoming and pep rallies. I’m also part of a smaller lacrosse- centered community service committee in which we go to gym classes and teach elementary/middle school students how to play lacrosse. I do yoga and Zumba classes twice a week and spend a lot of time enjoying the sunshine! (It’s still 70 degrees in the middle of November). Other than that, I hang out with friends and do homework. I love college!
