Spiral Construction have designed and manufactured a staircase in Chantry’s Barn, an award nominated stone barn con- version recently converted to create mag- nificent contemporary accommodation. The design philosophy for the barn has ensured both the retention of the many original architectural features of the barn and the sensitive application of contempo- rary materials, such as the concrete spiral
staircase. The combination of concrete, stainless steel and glass perfectly com- pliment the design brief to create a stunning yet simplistic feature within this remarkable barn conversion. Spiral Construction’s sales and marketing manager, Gareth Sutherland, commented: “We worked very closely with the owner and his architect to ensure we achieved every aspect of their vision.”

Balustrade systems made simple The PanelGrip®
Denso Ultraseal for Atlantic lighthouse protection Winn & Coales’ Denso Ultraseal Tape followed by Denso Acrylic Topcoat is now offering protection from an Atlantic Ocean environment plus attack by sea- gulls on the North Rona lighthouse, 40 miles north of the Butt of Lewis. The Denso materials were applied to roofs of the engine room and accommodation block in a recent refurbishment of the North Rona lighthouse by NG Bailey. Winn & Coales suggested to NG Bailey
that the Ultraseal Tape would be a more suitable alternative to provide both the protection required in the North Atlantic environment and also be less visible to the seagulls. The Denso Acrylic Topcoat provided a matt finish to blend in with the colour of the roof to make it less attractive to the Seagulls.

Brundle changes the rules of glass balustrad- ing, utilising a unique high performance clamp- ing mechanism combined with a patented Shoe Moulding. The major advantage of PanelGrip is the reduction in labour time when installing a structural glass railing system, as PanelGrip® can be easily adjusted and readjusted during installation. The clamping system also self- centres the glass and as you only need to tighten from one side, this is a major advantage
for working at height. Re-adjustment or glass removal at a later date can be per- formed by simply loosening the PanelGrip locking mechanism.
