Gilgen provides bespoke sliding doors for airport Gilgen Door Systems has developed and installed bespoke sliding doors for new checkpoint security lanes at Manchester Airport. Gilgen installed the unique sliding doors that form part of new security gate systems. The new security checkpoints direct passengers through a turnstile and a magnetic body scanner leading to a glass pod, when a passenger passes the security
check, one of the Gilgen sliding doors opens allowing the passenger to continue through to reclaim belongings scanned by baggage scanners. If they do not pass the security check the adjacent sliding door opens directing the passenger through to an area where further security checks are undertaken.

Levolux takes the limelight in Cardiff Following a £22.5 million redevelopment, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, in Cardiff, is proud of its new world-leading facili- ties, including a 450 capacity Concert Hall, wrapped in attractive Timber Fins, courtesy of Levolux. The Concert Hall is particularly impres- sive, with its imposing structure clad with rows of vertical Timber Fins. The Fins measure 185mm wide by 44mm thick and are 2.3 metres in length. The completed installation comprises
2,306 Timber Fins, machined in Western Red Cedar. Developed to provide differ- ential weathering, concentric rows of Timber Fins are fixed at alternating angles, creating a contrasting aesthetic, which appears to change as you pass around and enter the building. The application of the Fins significantly reduces solar heat gain within the building, which reduces the need for air conditioning.

Reynaers at the heart of major regeneration project A number of Reynaers’ systems have been specified on a £160 million development in the Hackney area of London. The project consists of approximately 500 new homes, including affordable and family accommodation, shop and restaurant units, a new library and a brand new station for the East London line. The residential development was designed by architects, KDS Associates, and brought to life by Barratt Homes, in partnership with the London Borough of Hackney and the Lord Mayor of London’s Office. Leaderflush Shapland BSF success in Hull A total of 968 Leaderflush Shapland doorsets have been supplied to three schools in Hull City Council’s £400 million Building Schools for Future (BSF) programme. Doorsets from Leaderflush Shapland’s Designer and Extended Performance ranges were specified by the Sewell group for Tweendykes Special School, Archbishop Sentamu Academy and Winifred & Holtby Schools. They were finished in Crown Cut Steamed Beech veneer and Oceana Hygieniform
high impact PVC. These finishes will help to raise the standards of hygiene by con- trolling the spread of infections through a highly effective anti-microbial additive – Hygienilac – which kills harmful species of bacteria and is incorporated within the lacquer on all Leaderflush Shapland veneered doorsets. Hygienilac is also incor- porated throughout the complete 2mm thickness of Hygieniform.
