arnet Council’s First Class Schools pro- gramme has certainly picked up momen- tum across the Borough. New schools


have been constructed, fulfilling the councils key pledge to provide a bright future for children and young people, following the completion of a new Children’s Centre and primary school extensions and improvements.

All of these new schools have been built to


highest standards of design and construction, designed to be as sustainable as possible and highly accessible to the local communities. The latest computer technology is playing


an important role and is fundamental to learning, providing pupils with a vast educational resource. Teaching areas feature large interactive white- boards. The new schools’ designs will also enable pupils


with special educational needs and disabilities to fully participate in everyday school life, providing an enjoyable experience, promoting pupils’ self esteem, social ability and achievement.


Colindale Primary School In September, pupils returned to a brand new school with an array of unique and creative learn- ing spaces, specialised facilities, cutting-edge technology and some impressive green creden- tials. The new three form entry Colindale Primary School has been phased in replacing the existing two form entry school. The project comprises a two-storey building


with infant & junior classrooms, offices & admin- istration rooms, a hall and a swimming pool for both school and community use, as well as the Acorn Centre to assess children’s special educa- tional needs. There is also a nursery that holds 80 pupils a day but on a part time basis – ergo 40 children in the morning and 40 in the afternoon. With the completion of the new school build-


ing, which had been constructed on the playing field, the vacated old building has now been demolished in order to make way for the new sports pitches and remaining landscaping. Sprunt Architects have designed a fully inclu- sive school that meets the needs of all pupils,
