Sport

At Dean Close Prep School we believe that sport is for everyone. We aim to inspire a lifelong love of sport, promoting fitness, well being, teamwork and most of all enjoyment. With our extensive grounds, outstanding sports facilities and the range of sports we are able to offer, every child is able to find something at which they can excel.

The school’s outstanding sports facilities include extensive sports pitches, two astro pitches, indoor 25m swimming pool, large gymnasium, tennis and squash courts, climbing wall and a new sports block containing a large sports hall, dance studio and fully equipped gymnasium.

Everyone plays organised sport at least three times a week. The boys play rugby, hockey and cricket and the girls play hockey, netball, rounders and tennis. All children participate in cross country and athletics. As well as the organised games lessons every child has a PE lesson each week, which includes regular swimming lessons. In all sports, professional coaches encourage children to reach their potential.

We have pupils competing at national and county standards, and at every other level of ability.

Our aim is that all our children represent the school in home and away matches, and it is the role of our dedicated coaches to maximise performance and stimulate a love of the game and physical activity in every child.

At Dean Close Preparatory School we embrace the adage that the key to learning is a healthy body and a healthy mind. The regular opportunities for outdoor activity, during organised games and at break and lunch times, help to focus their energies when they come into the classroom.

Our outdoor covered play area and our extensive playing fields provide the space for outdoor play every day of the school year, whatever the weather.
