These are based upon the pupils’ position in a class or set. As well as the attainment grade each pupil is awarded a grade for effort. The Form Tutor talks through the assessment sheet with each pupil individually and discusses a suitable target or targets to achieve over the next half term.
Examinations All pupils take tests or exams twice a year - in the Michaelmas and Trinity Terms. This testing helps them to get used to working under exam conditions from an early age. Year 3 to 6 pupils complete summative tests, in their classrooms on the work covered that term, whilst the Year 7 pupils take more formal examinations in the School Hall, helping to prepare them for the exam conditions they can expect when they sit Common Entrance in Year 8.
Reports These are sent home to parents twice a year. All pupils receive a full report at the end of the Michaelmas term, Year 8, Lent term and Years 3 to 7 at the end of the Trinity term.
ICT The three fully equipped ICT suites ensure that ICT has a central role in academic work. All children have timetabled ICT lessons during the week, at which they learn skills to use computers effectively and efficiently to enhance their academic studies. These skills are assessed internally. All children are also encouraged to be proficient in touch typing before they leave the Prep School. They all have their own Dean Close e-mail address and are able to access the school ICT systems from home. Where it is deemed appropriate, children with dyslexic difficulties are able to use a laptop in school. For children who are really keen on ICT there is often a Websites and Weblogs club during the lunchtime.
