CONTRACTS & PROJECTS Lowering off-mains energy bills

Guardian Project Services is helping homeownerswithout mains gas supply reduce their energy billswhilst taking advantage of theGovernment’s RenewableHeat Incentive Scheme.Guardian Project Service’s latest installation of an air source heat pump systemat an extended Victorian cottage is expected to see a saving of around 40 percent on the heating bills. Already delightedwith their Solar PV installation, ownersMr andMrsGoddard instructed Guardian Project Services to consider replacing their oil fired boiler, following concerns of last year’s astronomical costs to heat their home and the on- going fluctuation in oil prices. SinceGuardian Project Services are fully Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited, theGoddard’s were able to apply for theGovernment’s RenewableHeat premium payment scheme, which provides £850 towards the cost of the installation. Following an audit and reviewof various technologies available,Guardian Project Services designed a heat pump system capable of not only heating their newand existing radiators, but supplying domestic hotwater to the property at the same time. Guardian Project Services identified the DaikinAlthermaHigh Temperature Unit as being themost suitable systemfor their client’s needs, especially given the age of the property. For more information telephone 01525 862208 or email enquiries@guardian.uk.com

Each year, 15 million passengers will traverse Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2, visiting Ireland’s capital for tourism or business. With this many people passing through, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) wanted a striking, modern space with travellers in mind. At the centre, two iconic fan vaults accentuate the design and add the ‘wow factor’ for travellers, creating an iconic place to meet and greet.Made of 15m of double curvature mesh fabric tensile panels, the fan vaults roll down from the ceiling to the floor, creating stunning organic forms. Requirements for the fabric ceiling system included - adhering to a tight budget, echoing the form of the terminal shell (following its

Signbox help transformtheAngel

Signbox, winner of the coveted ‘Best Sign Company of the Year’ Award for 2011, have helped contribute to the complete transformation of the Angel Building in London’s EC1. A former BT exchange, development company Derwent London have created a striking, ultra modern office complex comprising 260,000sqft of high specification office space with café, specially commissioned works of art and large rooftop terraces affording spectacular views over London. Signbox were nominated early on by AHMM, the appointed architects for the building, to complete all the ‘base’ build signs, including external, floor, wayfinding and emergency. This contract was quickly followed up with the appointment by Cancer Research UK, one of the earliest tenants to take up residence. The Cancer Research signage work involved branding displays, wayfinding signage, large format impact walls and extensive manifestation applications. One of the unusual features created by Signbox was a series of projecting LED illuminated light boxes fabricated in acrylic. These formed a timeline highlighting the advances made in cancer research over the past 100 years.  For more information visit www.signbox.co.uk

double curvature and elegant clean lines) and panels needed to be easily installed and accessed for maintenance and services. The solution selected is the new ArchiClad system developed by Fabric Architecture Ltd. ArchiClad is a fully modular system with the flexibility to be applied both vertically and horizontally. A clever linking system allows for self-regulation of each panel, ensuring lines are crisp and clean, as specified by the architect, Pascall &Watson. Each ceiling panel was meticulously offset by 600mm from the main trusses for maintenance. In total 27,000sqm of tensile mesh fabric panels were installed throughout the terminal making it one of the largest internal applications of fabric of its kind. The fabric contrasts beautifully with the abundance of marble and glass enhancing the design theme. Declan Collier, CEO of DAA, says: “The design team has created a stunning piece of architecture incorporating great elegance and efficiency within tight budgetary constraints. It is Terminal 2 that will undoubtedly transform passenger’s experience.” For more information visit www.fabricarchitecture.com
